Philips AZ1300 CD Boombox

Constant 'Err' and 'No Cd' (by 2 users)

posted by Neozim11 on Feb 19, 2008

That is what I keeping getting when I put in a CD. Even with a real music CD, it still gives me an error message. It rarely plays CDs anymore. My warranty expired and i don't think the lens is broken. It is spinning when i open it, which indicates to me that everything should be fine. I really have no idea why it is not working. I haven't dropped it or anything. It's been like this for a while now, but recently it just does not seem to play anything anymore. I can't get good reception here in my room, so i can't listen to the radio so all that's left is the CD player. If that does not work maybe i should just throw the Boombox out and get a new one. What should i do and is there a problem?

I used a combination of solutions #1 and #2. It seems to working better than when I first bought it. I got a lense wipe that had alcohol on it and cleaned the lense meticulously and the entire boombox to remove all dust. I didn't know the lens needed to be relubed with alcohol or anything like that. I was just cleaning it with a damp towel. Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it.

ah okay, it really does not matter anymore since it functions properly now. It must have been the lens was smeared/dirty. Thanks for everything.
I have the same problem.

My Monsoon CD player in my VW golf reads "Error" when a CD is put in and immediately spits it back out.

Hi,

Your post/description could be indicative of just that, your unit can no longer read the disc.
This could be brought about by:
1. dirty, dusty, smeared optical lens or the laser eye;
2. stuck lens carriage;
3. defective laser eye.

#1 could be corrected with the use of a CD cleaner commonly available at computer stores/shoppes. Alternately, you can use a fine, clean small brush;

#2 if visible on top could be cleaned with cotton buds and household alcohol. You need to re-lube when it has dried up;

Additionally, a can of compressed air would also be of help in removing any dust or foreign materials inside the disc mechanism.

#3 would require the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi again,

Am glad to be of assistance and appreciate the rating.

My apologies for giving you the impression that the lens need to be re-lubed. It is the carriage where the lens sits on that needs to be re-lubed as well as the shafting that guides it. Please refer to the image below.

Cheers.
