Toshiba Satellite A505 - Most of the time when I turn it on the screen is grey, with no text.

This sounds like a bad display on the laptop. Hook up an external monitor to the vga port on the laptop. You may need to toggle the display to output to the external monitor. This is generally accomplished by pressing the "FN" key + one of the F# keys. Look for an icon that resembles a monitor or it may say LCD. If the graphics display correctly on the external monitor, then you will need to replace the computer screen.

I have a laptop toshiba l500d series. My question is the screen turns green only the black parts all the time. What would be causing this problem. Thanks

Hi, the screen may turn green when the Graphic Driver is corrupted. Please re-install the Graphic Driver in the Computer. The Graphic Driver can be downloaded from the Laptop Manufacturer website. Restart the computer after installing the Graphic Driver. If the issue persists, restart the computer and try pressing F2 Key to enter BIOS (Basic Input Output System) setup, then check if the screen displays green color. If the screen displays green color in BIOS setup then the issue is related to Hardware of either display or graphic card of the Laptop. In this case, please contact the manufacturer of the Laptop to initiate the service under Warranty. If the laptop is not under Warranty then service charges may apply.

No display on screen but lights on keyboard. The battery and power lights come on and the hard disk light blinks, but there is no display on the screen

Try an external monitor on the laptops vga output, if the external monitor works ok then you have either a faulty screen or inverter

My screen fails to illuminate, I can make out text just barely but there's no light - I think it's the inverter? If so I found one to buy but I'm looking to at least see it in my laptop first, is it...

  • Hi, hope this will help you with your problem. There are steps to 'change' the visual effects of the "Display." 1. Right click on "Desktop,” click Personalize, click, Display Settings. 2. Identify, Monitor used? 3. Down (arrow) select Monitors graphics. 4. Adjust, (low>high) resolution. 5. Select, Colors (16 bit>32bit), etc. 6. Select, Advanced Settings, click Properties ("check device status"). 7. Update Drivers (only if, necessary?) 8. Click on "List All Modes" select valid (modes) for the monitor. Note: Always click on the 'Apply', and 'OK' buttons after application changes for the process to take effect. 9. "Restart "Computer." *Next go, to: Screen Saver, in the Screen Saver Settings change 'Power' settings. *Next go, to: Start Menu, click on Product Name: (Toshiba), click 'Utilities' click, Toshiba Assist, click 'Optimize' click, "Display"; change power on display. *Next go, to Control Panel, in Mobile PC, click; "Adjust commonly used mobility settings" (changes the following); Display brightness, and Connect Display. “Did this solution help?”

No Screen display on tecra m3 laptop

if you go into safe mode (F8) on boot-up, does the graphics show up?? If so, it's the graphics board/chip on the MB. I have one and have the same problem - no amount of loading drivers, re-install BIOS, etc. would help. sometimes it works, but most times when you start up, shows the Toshiba logo, and once windows starts, goes to a black screen.

Screen has no power

1. take a flashlight and light on the display after you started the computer and waited for about 5 minutes, if you can see the windows environment the inverter needs to be replaced (normally it's in the display frame under the display)
2. attach an external monitor to the laptop and boot. if the monitor shows something you don't have a defective graphic-card (maybe you must push fn + one of the fn-buttons showing a monitor)

if you don't get anything displayd by an external monitor the graphic-card might be defective - you would need a "new" motherboard then

Display Driver

I am sorry but I have to say Vista is probably not the Operating System for your laptop. I decided to downgrade my Toshiba A135-S2276 to Windows XP (click here for an article about that) and it has been running 20 times better ever since. Windows Vista requires at least 2GB of ram, a fast processor and a good graphics card to run correctly, you'll be happier with XP.

Screen display has gotten smaller.

Well this is unusual & interesting.. (sic)I can still see the entire window(sic) I wonder if somehow the Display Drivers have gotten Screwed up.. Try un-installing your graphics hardware Drivers, then re-install the latest Drivers for your system. Of course B4 ya do any of that try adjusting your windows display to any other resolution and see if this changes things..
