Check the energy saving setting in the picture menu. It could be all the way on, turning it off makes a big difference.

My camera over exposes everything - the shutter stays open for about 2-3 seconds. except when on video settings. No matter what I set it at nothing changes.

Looking down at the top of the camera, check the left knob. This is the exposure compensation dial. Adjust it to "0". If set one way or the other, it will make pictures darker or lighter. This comes in handy when the image has a lot of dark or bright areas - moving this dial will allow you to make the bright areas darker or the dark areas lighter when you camera's light meter is setting the exposure in a way you do not want.

If still having trouble, make sure the right knob (Mode) is not set to M or Manual. Switch it to Program or Auto and try taking a picture again. You might even want to set the outer knob (ISO) to AUTO as well to reduce the chances of an incorrect setting. If it now works as expected, but you want to shoot in M, you will need to learn how to use the meter to select the correct combination of aperture (f stop), shutter speed and ISO to obtain the desired results.

Oh, experiment with the exposure compensation knob when you have a chance, learn how it can help correct overly dark / bright scenes. Good luck!

Brand new 47" "Edge Lit" LED, model MV4(Cant

I believe there may be another setting, it has to do with auto contrast which can make the TV seems to have high contrast ratio but sometime it does not work right, espically on the scene with dark sky with stars, someitme it will will reduce the brightness to make black real black and you can loger see the stars in the scene. I forget the name of this setting, it may be in the user manual. Do you see that in TV HD mode in other movies with a lot of dark scenes?

The screen on my aspire 5100 is so dark i can hardly see it

hi mary welcome to the forum! 1)you have an Fn key bottom row left, hold down while also pressing right arrow, bottom right. Each press increases brightness. Each press of left arrow decreases brightness. 2)go to the manual of Aspire 5100 that you there is the option "AcerClearVision" in the software "AcerArcade". See manual:"Acer Clear Vision is a video enhancement technology that detects video content and dynamically adjusts the brightness/contrast/saturation levels so that you do not need to change the color settings if the movie you are watching contains scenes that are overly dark or too bright." So you opened "AcerArcade". There you take: "movie or cinema--> settings -->display settings" en there you change in the option 'color profile' 'ClearVision' to 'Original'.

How to increase brightness in Canon Powersot A620 ?

Are you asking about brightness as viewed on the LCD, or are you asking about increasing brightness on the actual image taken? If it's the image, there are two special modes that you can select on your mode dial. They are "Night Scene", "Night Snaphot", and "Indoor". A description of both, along with your camera's other special settings, may be found here:

http://www.canon.co.jp/imaging/mode/camera/scene-e.html

"Night Scene" can be selected directly from the dial. It's the one showing a person standing under a star. Note that Night Scene should be used with a tripod to reduce the potential for blurriness.

"Night Snapshot" works almost as well, but does not require a tripod. It can be accessed by selecting SCN on the dial, and then pressing right or left with the selection buttons until it shows in the menu. The camera will remember this setting the next time you select SCN. I usually keep my camera always set to this setting so that I merely have to select SCN to use it.

"Indoor" works very well in those large rooms that may produce dark backgrounds when taking photos. It also does not require a tripod. It's accessed the same way as "Night Snapshot" (Select SCN, then right/left until selected). This is another good setting that I like to keep sometimes set in SCN.

Try all three settings, (and don't forget all the others too). Think you'll be impressed.

There is a possibility that the problem lies on the "Doubler" circuit board with this set, especially if the darkness looks like a smear in the picture during bright scenes like a hockey game.
