Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
Look behind front control panel. there is a tech sheet. you can trouble shoot this problem, but you may need a voltmeter and an amp meter. it sounds to me like the high voltage transformer is bad or not working. it helps power the magatron. the hum is the mag trying to work, but it doe'nt have the high voltage it needs. this unit new sells for appr. $350.00.

Most likely it is the magnetron and maybe the diode, but not the transformer, the transformer would smoke and you would smell a heavy electrical burning smell, if you are good at remembering where things go after you take them apart its not to bad but be ready to spend a hour or so, I can do it in 25 mins but I do those every day. Good Luck
