Question about LaCie F.A. Porsche (301177) Hard Drive
The problem you're experiencing can have several causes. The beeping is a diagnostic beep but may indicate failure or simply low power. If you do not have a Same model LaCie to swap power units with, do not attempt it. You can skip to Step Two below, if you do hook it up using that adapter and that units USB/Firewire then work through the below steps.
Generally the problem lies within the the drive enclosure or the drive itself but can ocassionaly be a driver related issues with your computer.
I'll give you a few steps to try, if they work you're off and rocking. If they don't you may be beyond DIY tips but there's always the option of seeking a pro. Either way we'll give you the right advice.
Step one, plug the drive into a different computer. If it works the problem is in your computer, try a different pair of USB ports, this is important as each USB Hub controls a pair of USB ports. If the drive works on another computer but doesn't work on any of your USB ports, reply back and I'll work through that solution with you.
Step two, if it doesn't work on another computer, that serves as reasonable proof the issue is within the drive enclosure. Take the drive to your local PC shop, ask the technicians to extract the harddrive and install it in a new enclosure. If it works in the new enclosure, buy the enclosure, thank them for their time and you're ready to roll.
If it still fails to respond, the issue is in the actual harddrive. This is the point where you will need a pro to assist you. I have had great luck with Armor-IT in Canada, they are the least expensive for most types of recovery and faster than most other facilities. you can get in touch with them through their website www.aitsavemyfiles.com .
Let me know how you make out either way, if you have any followup questions please comment back into this artical as it keeps it easier for me to track your questions.
