Question about Mcafee Total Protection: Windows

1 Answer

Installed McAfee 2010 total protection for my dell inspirion 1501. It prompted me to remove the expired version of Norton 360, which I did then proceeded to finish McAfee installation. Once completed it would not allow me to view web pages via IE. After countless hours on the phone with McAfee tech support, RoadRunner Support and Dell Support no one can help me. I am showing a strong connection to my home wireless network and can ping all websites from my laptop. I've downloaded McAfee removal tool and tried running that as well, to no avail.

Have you tried using another browser like Firefox or Google Chrome? I would completely un-install the Internet Explorer and then download this free registry cleaner http://download.cnet.com/Abexo-Free-Registry-Cleaner/3000-2094_4-10434887.html and run this program and it will clean out all of the registry errors in your hard drive. After you do that, download this program and run it completely to clear out the spyware/malware from your hard drive. http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10045910.html

I would say your computer has errors and spy ware preventing you from viewing pages on IE

Issue Description This document explains the McAfee Auto-Renewal program, and how to cancel it if required. All paid subscription services are automatically enrolled in the McAfee Auto-Renewal program. This feature ensures your virus protection is not interrupted. Without the auto-renewal feature, you would no longer be protected when your license expires.

For more details about the McAfee Auto-Renewal program, see CS40083.

Solution
  1. Open a web browser and go to http://home.mcafee.com.
  2. Click My Account.
  3. Log in using your email address and password. If you do not have a McAfee account, select New User? Register Now, follow the prompts to create your McAfee account, then click Log In.

NOTE: If you would like the McAfee website to remember your username, check the box labeled Remember Me.
  4. Mouse-over My Account and select Auto-Renewal Settings.
  5. Select Turn Off. If your Auto-Renewal is set to Off, you don't need to do anything.

Renewal free norton Antirus 2010.

If you only need the anti-virus component of Norton 360 (it also includes an email filter and some other components) then I would recommend a newly-available free antivirus program, see the instructions for installation here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r5317428-actually_free_antivirus_software_windows

However, if you do need the other components of Norton 360 I would choose another paid software. You can either go online to Norton's website and download the newest version of Norton 360 here:
http://antivirus.norton.com/content/en/us/home_homeoffice/html/paid/seo02252010/SEO_Static_Option_3_Col_Radio_02252010.html?om_sem_cid=hho_sem_sy:us:ggl:en:e|kw0000004480|5995564156&om_sem_site={adcopy}
When the program tells you that it has expired five days ago there is likely a link in this window for a website at which you can renew your subscription. This is likely a cheaper alternative to buying an entire new version of Norton 360 and will do the same thing, so try following this link and paying to increase your subscription if you want the suite of security software.

Your computer will now be secured from threats again!

McAfee?? this product you need to check how to totally remove it from your netbook because it will block most of the other anti virus. Consider as business strategy, so that end user just use this anti virus, rather than other.

I have a dell inspirion with vista and I can not connect to the internet using a cable modem.

Have you tried disabling your firewalls, f it came with norton 360 or norton internet security remove it and then try connecting if you can then its your firewall stopping it
another way to try without uninstalling is to click on the start button then in the search box type CMD and press return
in the command prompt that opens type
ping www.google.com and hit enter
if you get four packets sent and four received your firewall is blocking the internet connection. Remove it try the internet if it works reinstall it and it will detect the new network and allow you access.

type ipconfig in the command prompt window and hit enter if you get a 169.x,x,x x=any number then the laptop has no ip. Make sure that the network card isnt disabled
if they all fail and the laptop hasnt got an ip address, then the problem is the cable modem, is the internet active? I.e. you can plug it into another pc and it works

Internet security such as norton

Norton is not one that is favored by most but you will find proponents and detractors of most all of the AV programs.
I have been using AVG (www.grisoft.com) pretty much since its inception but the 'free' version is dying out although my version 7.5 is still functioning well for us and has kept us free from bugs since installed.
It notifies us weekly to update and has now stopped nagging about upgrading to version 8.0 which is a paid version.

I would advise downlooading MS Defender which is free and gives another layer of protection and check your browser to see if the "restricted sites" list is already present and installed. It will block your entry to dangerous websites that can grab your browser or download harmful software.

As far as picking another AV program, take a look a reviews before paying for more protection than you need:
