Question about Acer Aspire 5670 Notebook
My acer aspire 3000 has been behaving really weird of late. As soon as i start up, after a couple of minutes, the touch pad and the keyboard stop functioning. I can still move the mouse pointer using a USB mouse and the same using a USB keyboard. but that too not for long. I tried a system restore, the problem wouldn't go. I tried using the recovery disks provided by Acer to perform a recovery, but the problem still persisted. I then deleted the partition I had and formatted my whole hard disk and then did a fresh install of XP from one of my friends' CDs. The problem was still there. I have also tried booting the system from a bootable CD with an OS like "Reatogo XPE" . They keyboard and touchpad seem to function perfectly well in that environment (although such an environment gives me only basic functionality). Please tell me how I can solve this problem as I seem to have tried everything possible short of contacting acer. I am having the same problem with my acer aspire 5670 . it is 2 years old.
My Acer Aspire 5050 developed the exact same problem last wekk. I reinstalled everything and even a new operating system. It was only when I read the answer on this page that I took the battery out.
It has worked flawlessly ever since.

My son solved this problem for me. It is a build up of excess electrical charge in the components of the laptop over time. it can be disbursed by closing down, pulling the power cord and the battery and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Power back up and you are ok!

Yaw the machine becomes haunted when you use the machine as laptop ie. using the battery while operating. You may remove the battery and use it as power on desktop and the problems will vanish, when you put the battery the machine becomes haunted and will not listen to you every thing will freeze.
Removing the battery will fix all the problems and you will gain all the controls back.

ACER Travelmate c110 - Touch pad and keyboard would lock up at random times for random lengths of time. USB mouse would work when touch pad was frozen. Tried reloading drivers and all that but nothing provided a solution. Searched the web and this is what worked for me.
In device manager, disable the MS ACPI-compliant control method battery. Tablet now runs fine on battery power or AC power.

Had Vista Business, worked fine with battery in for some time. Then it stopped working.
Formatted laptop again (Acer Aspire 5673wlmi) with Vista Ultimate, rebooted and it still freezes within 10 seconds of the desktop coming up.
Try booting just with the mains plugged in and the battery out - works fine.

Acer aspire 3003LMI. Thanks for you help saved all the time repairng windows that would not have worked
Mouse/keypad lock up after boot up. OK in Safe mode!
Took the battery out PC worked fine. The battery would only last for about 15 mins. So I will be buying a replacement.
Suspect over current theory is correct!
However did the act of removing the battery create a total power down in the system? So causing a fresh reboot?
Anyway my advice if you have the same fault remove the battery FIRST.
All the best

This is the link to acer's battery replacement program www.acerbatteryrecall.com
However, the replacement program is not related to any issues with keyboard and touchpad - it seems to be about batteries catching fire!
I have an acer aspire 5672wlmi (vista business) which has a bad battery. My battery sadly didn't mach the replacement criteria : (
Just taking the battery out and run on your adapter/powercord immediately solves the keyboard and touchpad issue. getting a new battery costs about 100€ and solves the issue aswell.
New drivers or any reinstall didn't work for me.
There is also a page wtih phonenumbers that you can call to check if you can get your battery replaced. I've tried the dutch number 078-150024 but it seems to be allways occupied

I have an acer aspire 5672 wlmi, it's having the same problem - freezing of keyboard and impaired funtioning of touchpad.
I took out the battery and the problem is fixed! (amazingly) However, I need to allways plugg-in my powercord, which sucks.
I'm writing Acer for a replacement battery
So TAKE OUT THE BATTERY

This is mechanical..you may have a bad touchpad, or the connector under the keyboard is having some issues.

I've been having this problem myself. The thing is, whenever I disconnect the battery, everything decides to work fine. When I put it back in, everything turns into crap again. Try plugging your laptop in, but turning it on without the battery attached.

Well this might not solve your problem but it may help others. I thought I was having the wierdies! on my new Acer Aspire 5315 after happily installing Suse 11.0 and getting all but wireless to work. Yes even Crystal Eye was identified and Skype picks it up and give me a great pic.
Suddenly this morning for no apparent reason I could no longer use the touchpad only the mouse 'logitech' worked. Checked everything and then did a search using ixquick.com and got here. Tried all the suggestions including taking the battery out but nothing. Sat and pondered and then looking at the keyboard noticed that F7 had a little hand and finger pointing to a square icon just below and to the right of the F7. Umm! let see whar happens when I use the Fn and the f7 keys. BINGO!!!! Touchpad loves my fingers again.
Might help if anyone else has similar Aspires or laptops with lockout like this.

Check your memory. Reseat your memory. Try that first. The next step would be to get *********** board checked. All I own is Acers and I have had that same problem. Usually after reseating the memory everything seems to work just fine. But this could even be your graphics card. I would try and run a diagnostic on it and reseat the memory. You can run a diagnostics by shutting down the computer then hitting F8 and click on diagnosis and repair. And see what kind of a reading you get out of it.
