DISHWASHER SOAP DISPEN NOT OPENING

I bought a brand new LG dishwasher about 6 months ago. I've had a few problems with it. First, it gives off a smell when it operates. Secondly, more often than not, the soap dispenser does not open. I have read the manual and have tried putting a lot less soap but it still does not work. Should I try switching to liquid soap instead?

is the machine heating ok?, if so then the dispenser and or the electronic control board is most likely faulty.
if the machine is still in warranty call your lg service agent and when the tech is on site, request that he change both the dispenser assembly and the control board.
if you are not over filling with powder then using liquid will make no difference.
