Your accespoint has a hard resetbutton, a small one wich can be used by pressing it with a pen. hold it for 10 - 30 seconds and the accespoint will be set to default settings.

btw I STRONGLY recommend you to have a protected network at all times!

Good luck and I hope this solved your problem

In my ibm access my wireless networking is greyed out

When the icon is greyed out ... it usually mean it is NOT available / active (usable). In your case, it's likely your Notebook is not connected to the wireless. Try to "Connect" to the wireless first . If the wireless network is "protected", it may require a password before allowing you to access it.

Wireless Network Security II

We browse the internet and have far fetching concerns of how secure our connection is, especially when its wireless. Here are a few pointers:

The security concerns with wireless network centre around :

Unauthorized access

Eavesdropping

The authentication component (pre-shared keys) of schemes such as WPA and WEP, as well as MAC address filtering, address the issue of restricting access to the wireless network to only authorized devices.

Encryption address the issue of protecting against eavesdropping on the wireless network traffic.

If you turn off WPA (or similar scheme), you are turning off an access control method as well as an encryption method. The wireless network traffic can then be easily eavesdropped on, and the MAC addresses and IP addresses of participating machines can be determined. These can then be spoofed, and the wireless network joined.

Turn back on WPA/WPA2.
Other way to prevent unauthorized network access are
1. Password-protect your wireless connection. Turn on WEP (wired equivalency privacy) or WPA (Wi-Fi protected access) on all of your devices, including your router, your media center. You may also set up a security key for your wireless network.
2. Place the wireless access point away from windows and near the center of your house to decrease the signal strength outside of the intended coverage area.
3. Keep all software current (including your Web browser) with automatic updates. Use firewall, antivirus, antispam, and antispyware software from a source that you trust and watch out for fake alerts for security software.

Hi. i'm trying to get my girlfriends notebook(advent 4213) connected to the net. i am using my own wireless net but when i click on the net it comes up saying this page cannot be displayed. do i h

If the Advent notebook normally connects to the internet without problem on her network, then you need to check the following:

1. That she does not have any proxy connection setting in her web browser that you do not use on your own network.

2. Check that her wireless adapter is configured to Obtain an IP address automatically and also Obtain DNS server address automatically.

3. Check the status of the wireless adapter connection and ensure that the Advent notebook has been given a valid IP address, i.e. if your are connecting to a wireless router on your network, you should see an address something like 192.168.x.x where the x.x depend on how your router is setup. If you see a 168.x.x.x address then the notebook is not getting a valid, routable IP address and you should try to do a Repair of the network adapter connection. Repair may also be shown as Diagnose and repair depending on which version of Windows is used.

Install software without a cd rom drive

Connect an Ethernet cable between the network-port on your computer and one of the LAN ports on the router.

Now, you have a "direct" connection to the web-server that is "inside" the router. Open your web-browser, and connect to the web-server, and then you can run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard" to create your wireless network, i.e., pick an SSID and a password, and enable "WPA" (Wireless Protected Access) security.

Now, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable, and you can "find" the SSID that you have chosen.

New wireless system installed in house.

You can simply deactivate Norton IS by right clicking its icon in the bottom right corner and clicking it's exit or shutdown command (or whatever command it uses).

However are you sure the laptop is accessing the wireless network?

Also how many other PC's do you have? Are they able to access the wireless network and the internet?
