Lap top not getting data from j1708 connection

There may be a problem with connectivity;
The protocol is basically 8N1 serial, but messages are separated from each other using an idle timeout (minimum 10 bit times - at 9600 baud this works out to be 1.25milliseconds). Messages consist of one message identifier (MID) followed by one or more data bytes and a checksum byte. The checksum should be the two's complement of the eight-bit sum of the MID and all the data bytes (a message is considered valid if the eight-bit sum of all the characters including the MID, data bytes and checksum is equal to 0). The total message length cannot exceed 21 bytes.
You cannot connect this directly to your PC without at least an RS485 to RS232 converter - you can get away without the pull-up/pull-down resistors for testing but should ensure that any termination resistor is open.
Hope that helps.

Don't start up

check that all removable media is removed from computer, flash drives etc,if this message still appears the reinstall your os, there are several reasons for this error. You may have to replace your hard drive if that is the issue- you would know because after reinstall (if it makes it thru it) it will only crash again, this is much too big of a subject to sum it all up here and now, good luck... more questions just ask

Bad bios checksum

The BIOS sum check has detected faulty BIOS information. This can occur when the BIOS battery is nearly flat.
Replace the BIOS battery and then go into the BIOS configuration and set the Date and Time etc.

While using the laptop on battery it unexpectedly shuts down then when restarting it states that it is a bad RTC Battery (replaced 2 months ago as it said the same with the first one) Bad check sum (CMOS)...

aside from the battery (big one) there is another battery connected to your motherboard, it is not accessible unless you open the casing of your laptop.

bring it to a service center and have it replace(it is almost a size of a watch battery)

Turn on computer and message reads ****bad check sum (CMOS) ****

That means that after computer had been off for a long time the CMOS battery has drained, and CMOS (BIOS) settings had been reset to default.

Usually the computer will work fine after pressing F1, but you may get wrong date and time.

Try charging battery completely, often the problem disappears, if it does not , then the choice is between pressing F1 each time you start the laptop, or disassembling the laptop and replacing CMOS internal coin battery, located on the lower side of the motherboard.

The battery will charge but will not turn on unplugged

This seems like a bad battery again. Take it back witht he laptop and have the shop or store test it. This is not a software issue...
