If neither your computer nor your camera will recognize your card then it is safe to say that there is an issue with the card. You may either have bad contacts or an internal issue, but since your camera states it is locked when you say it is unlocked that would normally signify an internal issue. If you still have a warranty on the card I would suggest you take it back to the place it was purchased from.

I had a problem trying to get my computer (Mac OS 10.4.11) to read a 4GB card in my card reader. I tried a couple of different readers, all of which were multiple card type ones (ie they have various slots for various types of cards) and none of them would work. The last card reader I tried was the one I keep in with my laptop away from home and it was only a singular regular SD sized card reader - but it worked! Mounted the card on my desktop immediately. I didn't realize at the time that the 4GB card must be of the new SDHC design which my multiple card readers didn't know what to do with. Interestingly enough the singular card reader is of the same age as the other readers, but... it worked. Next time I'll know what the difference between the two types of cards are - even though they physically look the same and both fit in the same card reader slot.

See if camera electronics can be reset. Contact the manufacturer for this procedure. If nothing can be done to restore camera to factory defaults then the electronics are fubar. May not be cost effective to repair.

Computer won't recognize my camera when I plug it in

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

WHY WONT SANDISK SDHC WORK IN MY POWERSHOT A420

Your camera is designed to work with SD or MMC cards.
SD and SDHC cars look similar. But older cameras cannot recognize SDHC cards.
Use a SD card instead. (I know, the capacity is the problem!)

My computer is not recognizing the camera (a3100) in windows 7. connot find camera icon on the task bar.

It's possible the USB cable you are using has gone bad, or that there isn't enough power going to the camera to turn it on. Try replacing the batteries and/or the usb cable, and see if it works. If not, you can take the SD card out of the camera and insert it into a SD card reader.

I cannot format my brand new SD card with my Canon Powershot 970 IS. It is a 4G, however i just tried an old 1G and it will not format that one either .... perplexed.

Try another type of SD card as the Canon camera are very choosy with regards to SD card. All I want to say that, not all SD card will work on Canon camera. Or if you insist of using your SD card you have to format it in your computer using Canon formatting software which is downloadable in the website.

Cannon s5is powershot as soon as i turn camera on a memory card error comes up and theres no card in it, does same thing when card inserted. it's got to be something in the camera slot, is there a lock in...

On the SD card there is a little switch you can move. It has 2 positions, LOCKED, and UNLOCKED. To make the card available, put the switch in the UNLOCKED position.
Here is an example-

If that doesn't work, try putting the card into a memory card reader, like on your PC or a special USB attachment. If the memory card is recognized, then it might be a problem with your camera.
