Printing/ghosting ink randomly?

Our printer is printing/ghosting ink as it prints. It does print normally except there is almost carbon being printed in the background. Random images/text prints on the paper but it is not as clear as what is supposed to print.

Ghosting and Horizontal streaks are usually the toner cartridge or the drum; vertical steaks are usually the thermostat or the fuser. Before you spend a lot of money on a new fuser...If you are getting horizontal streaks or ghosting and changing the toner cartridge out fixes the issue temporarily, I suspect you just have people taking the blank pages that print out after printing and feeding them back through the printer to save paper.

The old paper picks up a charge when fed through the first time, pulls toner up the second like a magnet, and deposits the toner onto the toner drum. When the next sheet comes through, the image itself or a black line of toner can be pulled from the last sheet (or the sheet before) and is transferred over the new image. Change your toner and print several pages to the printer, see if the problem fades and goes away.

If it does, just tell people to either stop feeding the blank pages through, or to at least turn them over and put them at the bottom of the paper stack. This will give it time to dissipate the charge before feeding back through.

Replaced black ink but will not print in black epsom CX5500

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Faulty printer

There will be no ink in the cartridge so that is why your printer is printing like this so you can change the cartridge(the ink cartridge) and then it will print properly.

Ghosting

Normally ghosting is caused by a bad fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. As the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover..
Look at the paper. If there is no ghosting, the fuser is bad. If there is ghosting, could be a cartridge drum.
Follow these steps print a Print quality troubleshooting page to identify which print cartridge is causing the issue.
  1. Open Toolbox .
  2. Click the Help folder, and then click the Troubleshooting page.
  3. Click Print , to print the page. The page prints five bands of color, which are divided into four overlapping sections. By examining each section, you can isolate the problem to a particular print cartridge. Figure 4: Print quality troubleshooting page bandsc01417618.gif 1 - Yellow 2 - Cyan 3 - Black 4 - Magenta

Poor print quality

The "ghost" image is "burned" onto the drum.

A laser printer is supposed to charge specific "dots" on the drum, and the toner-ink is supposed to stick only to those "dots", the paper is pressed against the drum, and then the "fuser" uses heat to "melt" the toner-ink onto the paper, to produce the printed page.

You need to replace the drum.

Black ink problem with printout on hp7780

Always try replacing the ink cartridges first.

It sounds like the print heads in the 7780 are bad. Don't confuse the ink cartridges with print heads. The cartridges fit inside the print heads. You will need to change the heads. Here is a link to HP's how-to.

Could have the same problem with the Dell.

Ghosting on HP2015 Printer

Hi gpeirce:
Ghosting is the result of a worn fuser assembly. Try to print a half page by printing a document and then try to open the top while the paper is going under the toner cartridge. You have to listen to the paper moving through the paper path. You will see that the paper has print on it but not the hole document. This will tell you if the toner cartridge is bad or the fuser assembly.

Hope this helps

Text is "ghosting" when using card stock

I sort of solved my ghosting problem by selecting print, set up, and then under media type selected thicker paper. This apparently pulls the card stock through at a slower rate which helped tremendously. One of my documents turned out perfect and the other "ghosted" just a little.

CANON BJC-85 DOES NOT PRINT

Try this to clean the print head;
Canon will hate me for this.

1. Remove ink cartridges.
2. Remove print head.
3. Go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head being careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air-dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.
