If its starts out bright enough then rapidly goes to dark it may not be a matter of contrast. If it is the contrast hit the menu button and go into the video menu then select user defined as the setting select the contrast and adjust it to whatever specific setting you would like.

The picture is so dark can't make out figures

It sounds that the back-light section has some fault with your TV. Otherwise, 30% brightness, 60 to 65% contrast, and 20 to 30% color settings should give you perfect picture.

Too dark

well...the contrast comes to mind first, and then the color temperature..it's all accessible from the menu, of course.

I'd start with contrast, and then look at the color temperature ratings..

I find the colour contrast is very dark could you send me ideal colour settings for perfect clarity thanks

Hello
Adjust the contrast to 55 to 70%; brightness to 45 to 55% and colour to your viewing taste. Now the brightness will be very low I thinks. Advance the brightness and contrast after setiing the colour to Zero. Adjust for a well defined B/W picture first. The advance the coulour. Take reference of the face colour of a news reader at studio. The picture will be perfect. OK.

I have a panasonic television that is very dark, the other colors are okay but when it goes to nights scenes, its very dark can this be repaired, the model number is ct-25G6E

It sounds like the master contrast has slipped. If you are confident with electronics, there is a little knob on the main board which allows you to set the master contrast. This is only applicable if the picture looks like it has too much brightness (like a white haze over the picture in dark scenes). Gently adjust the knob to set the correct contrast and you should be up and running. If that doesn't work, then your tube is on the way out.

Dark screen

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.

No contrast

first turn your color all way off or down.try turning your contrast way down as far as it will go you should see a darker picture. now bring up the brightness to a point half way. bring the contrast up to see grays and whites and blacks...adjust brightness more if need be. now you should see a nice black and white picture. no bring your color up last ...not saturate but to your liking. if you stilll got problems i bet your video out transistor is shorted....meaning shop work.

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer
