Question about Acer (54.AA806.001) Sound Card

1 Answer

I have an Acer Aspire T671 with a Realtek HD Audio card with the ALC888 chipset (I think!). For the first year I got all my sound from a USB Logitech headphone/microphone (which was OK)but now I want to a) get sound from speakers plugged into the back of the PC and b) get sound from headphones plugged into the headphone jack at the front of the PC. The HD Audio Manager recognises when either the speakers or the (non-USB) headphones are plugged in, but no sound comes out! I believe the installed driver for the sound card (6.0.1.5322) is the most up-to-date for a Vista machine. Can you help, please?

    Hi Stephan

Iim not that worried whether the main speakers cut out when the headphone jack is inserted or not - i'd just like some noise to come out of both of them!

    Hi again Stephan

I'm new to FixYa - is it possible for us to chat 'live' on this one?

Hi. Very similar - but there is no third tab

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

    Vista Home Premium.

The sound is not muted according to the volume control in the HD Audio Manager. Is there somewhere else in Windows to look?

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

That was the screen I was referring to. I confirm that none of the items was muted. When playing something I get sound out of the USB headphones but nothing fro either the speakers or the plug-in headphones

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

sorry - forgot. There are sound bars for the USB headset - nothing elsewhere

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

no red circles I am afraid. Yes, the USB headset is the default device although I have tried making the speakers the default device before and there is still no sound. I am now up on Skype with audio if you want.

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

HD Digital Audio output is now selected default - no sound from anything, including the USB headset!

  • firethorn534 Feb 01, 2010

I have invited you on Skype but cannot call/chat until you accept me

    Hi Stephan

I have now installed the new Realtek software and the driver has been updated from 6.0.1.5322 to 6.0.1.6029. But still no sound from either the speakers or the non-USB headphone.

The HD Audio Manager has set the speakers as the default device. There are no green bars against the speakers when I play something but there are green bars (and sound!) from the USB headset.

A couple of things have occurred to me: On the HD Audio Manager graphic console it shows the jack plugs at the front and rear of the PC under the Analogue section and one (black) jack as being Digital. Is the Realtek Digital Audio device trying to pump out a digital signal to that jack and so it's not getting to the analogue speakers?

Over to you and your fellow experts.....

Hey Firethorn.

I just need to clarify...You want to connect the speakers to the back audio output and also want to be able to plug in the headphones when you want to and have the speakers turn off automatically? But the sound does not work on either one?

Kind Regards
Stephan

Okay...So neither are working right? Does your sound manager application look like this one?

Okay , that does not matter as much. The mic tab only comes into play when a mic is installed.

What operating system are you using?
Have you checked that windows sound is not muted?

Okay , click on the white little speaker in the tray next to your time and date. This will bring up the following screen.

Check that there are no red circles near ant of the speakers. Also play something on your pc and see if the sound bars indicate that sound is being played.

Okay , and when you plug out the USB headphones , do either one of them work?

If you have a gmail or skype account , I will try and assist you with the next step on the chat mode in gmail / skype. This is not usually done so please do not mention it to anyone. I am making a huge exception for which I could get into trouble. My mail address is epos4stef@gmail.com

Okay , do the following. Right click on your realtek icon in the tray and select Audio Devices.

This should bring up the following screen :

Here you should see two or three realtek icons and you USB earphones. If any one of them has a red circle , right click on it and select "enable"

The problem I think is that the USB earphones have taken over as the default device. Check that quickly and get back to me.

Also , if the little green mark is selected on the USB headphones , click on the realtek speaker icon and select make default.

This will allow the computer to redirect the sound to the audio card instead of the headphones.

Sorry , I can't seem to be getting my skype to work at the moment.

Go to control panel > system > device manager and under audio devices , check to see if there are any devices with a yellow exclamation mark.

    Hi Miles.

I don't think that this is what is happening. The audio manager automatically detects when you are using digital output and adjusts accordingly. If you try uninstalling the USB headphones and restart your computer , does your sound work?

Also , do the test sounds again in the Audio devices menu.

If this does not render any sound , then I'm stumped. You should then reject my answer so as to enable another expert to have a look at it. I will add comments if I can think of anything.

    Kind Regards
    Stephan

The sound of my computers audio is strange. The computer is Acer Aspire E380 with Realtek High Definition sound card. Can anybody help me?

Try this, double click on the realtek HD audio icon on the system tray (orange speaker), click the effects tab, check if there's an active sound effect, change the effect to none, this should return the audio back to normal. Otherwise, either there's a problem with the speaker or on-board sound card.
