Its a Dell XPS 400

When I start the computer and it runs through the start up it does not read the keyboard, will not let me hit the F2 or F12, or get the reinstallation CD to boot, and ends with

Keyboard failure
Floppy diskatte failure
Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the set up utility

Sorry, I need to be alittle bit more specific. The Keyboard is good it works great on my Tower unit. Just not on the One I'm trying to fix. I've tried to disconnect all connectors(one at a time) checking for loose or broken ones. I'm about to pull my HD and switch it with the one in the bad tower. But fearful of messing that one up too. Thanks for the prompt reply "Mr. Fixit"

it loads to page of F2 or F12 for start up settings but underneath it says keyboard failure, so I can't do any of the keyboard commands.

Go into thye BIOS and turn off USB bootable device. The error is because the computer is trying to use the keyboadr to boot. At least it solved my problem.

There is no way around a bad keyboard, you will need to get a new keyboard to continue.

Have a Dell XPS 600 problem. I am getting a message when I turn on the computer, "Keyboard Failure Alert! System battery voltage is low. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup utility." What should...

If you have another keyboard try swapping it out and see if it reads the new one. Also a stuck key could possibly cause this error. System battery message probably means you need a new battery for the motherboard. If you replace the battery get the new one before removing the old one. If you leave it out too long you can clear the CMOS

My dell dimension xps 400 does not detect mouseand keyboard

Hi, these instructions will help you, and "everything that you do for the Keyboard; apply the same instruction to the Mouse." First, click on the "Start" button, in the ["Start Search Window], Type: keyboard; the "Keyboard" Properties window will open. You can (Test) to see exactly how your keyboard is responding. If you are still having the same problem, (check, the Keyboard Status). "Update the Drivers," by clicking on the "Properties" button. Now in the event that neither of these solutions solve the problem, which I hope you shouldn't have to do anymore; "Uninstall the Keyboard. To "Uninstall the "Keyboard," do the following: Shut-down (turn- off completely); disconnect all the Keyboard Devices that are connected to the Computer. Next, turn-on the Computer, and go back to the "Keyboard Properties," next, click on the "Change Settings" button, next click on the "Driver" button, and select the "Uninstall" button. Once that is finished, shut-down the Computer again. Now you want to "Reconnect" all the devices that were connected before, and "Turn-on" the Computer. "You will repeat exactly what you did from the start, this will "Re-install the Keyboard. "Restart the Computer again after all changes have been made; this will ensure the changes take effect properly. "Rating the solution will let me know if it worked; or you may need further assistance, thanks."

Wireless mouse and keyborad will not work. replaces batteries and hit reset button on mouse and keyboard. can not get access to computer

Sounds like your USB circuit may have gotten fried due to a static discharge (assuming your keyboard and mouse are USB). You can purchase an "add-on" USB pci card or a PS2 Mouse and Keyboard.

When i boot up my pc i have to hit the f1 key. it says something about the keyboard

This happens when the BIOS does not recognize your USB keyboard.

To clear this error:

upon start up Enter BIOS Setup by pressing F2 or F12 (whichever BIOS software it is running). On the main BIOS window change the "Halt On.." value to "No Errors". Press F10(Save & Exit) then hit Enter key to restart.

Hope this helps.
