5100 says the carriage is not moving freely across the page or there is ink or grease on the encoder strip. Look inside for any paper scraps, and clean the strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly with a Q-tip damp with alcohol. It's fragile, so don't press too hard.

Error 49.23F9

. Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory. 2. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on. You can try reprinting the job to see if it was a temporary error. 3. If error persists, try printing a job from a different software application. If the alternate job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or certainprint job, try upgrading the printer driver and / or firmware.) 4. If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or printer. Turn the printer off and delete the print queue. Then reboot printer AND computer, reconnect cables, and try printing again. 6. Remove all EIO devices from the printer (JetDirect cards, hard drives, etc.). If 49 error goes away, turn printer off, re-install EIO devices one at a time, and reboot printer each time to determine which EIO device is failing. 7. If printing still fails with all EIO devices removed, remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM-- printer won't function without this installed.) Turn the printer on with DIMMS missing. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM one at a time, turn printer on, test printer. Replace a DIMM if you determine that it causes the error. 8. Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer. 9. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM. 10. If error persists, replace the formatter.

Getting 5100 error if and when a print job or scan is attemped. Earlier it flashed ;print cover is open' message. Now i am getting 'check printer' message

error 5100 refers to the carriage not moving correctly. Open the main cover and take a look into the printer engine and behind the carriage (the bit the print head and ink tanks click into) you will see a long thin blackish plastic strip (called the encoder strip). Clean the encoder with some soapy water on a cotton bud.It is very delicate so dont press ******* it otherwise it will snap. Check there are no paper scraps stuck anywhere inside the machine, especially at end end of the carriages travel. You will probably find some paper in there.

Good luck

Hi, I had a paper jam and all I'm getting on screen is ( error code 5100 ). I have missplaced my manual, the machine is a pixma460 all in one. Hope you can help, thanks,

Error code 5100 means that the movement of the fine cartidge holder is blocked. To resolve this, clear the paper jam or any foreign object that is preventing the fine cartridge holder from moving, cancel printing from your computer and then turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON again

Error message 5100 on Canon i560 printer

Hi You can Try
Same old errors
Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
