Liteon lvw-5045 does not recognise bland dvds of any sort, even the type that it has recognised in the past and recorded on to. It just keeps trying to load dvd and then opens the door for insertion of dvd!!!!

If your DVD recorder can still access CD's the goto the following link and select your DVD recorder from the drop down list under audio/video and download the firmware file.

http://www.liteonit.eu/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=178

Write the file contained in the zip file to a CD and insert it into your DVD recorder. Follow the instructions in the user manual to complete the firmware update.

This should solve your problem.

It maybe the spindle motor that rotates the disc thats why there is no information read by the laser or the laser itself is the problem. if it is only the motor it can be replace but the laser it should be compatible or the same model. one simple thing to do open and try to clean the optical lens by a cotton buds gently rub around the lens and close and try.

Repair Technician (not Liteon's) for DVD 5005 told me that due to the parking of the laser reading head is off. The replacement of the drive is the solution. This is the headache for LiteOn since their marginal software/drive cannot keep par with their replacement in spite good electronics. They don't have enough replacement either. The tech also told me the replacement has to be specific. The same model drive suffix A is not compatible with suffix B. Due to shortage of replacement, he has to reset parking position of the head. This repair require a lot of skill. Therefore, I bought 2 late (16x) Liteon drives to replace one 5005 and one 5005x.
The repacement, physically unfit, performs OK except without CD-R/RW writing. 5005 does its re-calibration of laser writing differently for DVD and CD. Late drives concentrate on DVD writing, especially for double-layer, RAM and lightscribe writing.
Other brand drives can be used; unfortunately, you will lose fast search capability plus no CD writing. But you gain back the quality DVD writing which I always cherish on. That's only reason I bought 5006 as a "carry-on" when I failed physically fit the late vdrive onto 5005. The late drives were bought from Staple's clearance inventory in 2007. You can explore the late drive's availability.

Replacing also requires certain skill. Consult your technical friends. You can reach me through email to luthermei at yahoo dot com.

When trying to play a computer generated DVD +R DL, I get a message that says this type of disc cannont be played. please insert a different disc

The disc is probably an incompatible format for this model player. Even if the disc is finalised in your PC, or in a DVD recorder, this player may still be unable to read it. Some DVD recorder/players do not recognise DVD+R (or +R DL) media, while others won't recognise +/-RW discs (except CD-RW); this is a model limitation - not a fault with either your player, the PC burning software or the discs themselves.

Nothing can be done to fix this except purchasing a model which accepts multimedia (+R/DVD-RAM etc). The question is, does your player play ANY normal DVDs? I am guessing your player will accept DVD-R DL discs just fine since this is standard as well as proper shop-bought movies.

Dvd drive dose not recognise any dvds i put in it keeps saying unknown disc

If your unit is older the optical pick up lens may be dirty or has gone bad. Most Philips units are exchange items only, meaning they replace it under warranty instead of fixing it, if its out of warranty there usually are no parts or service information on them. Philips was bought be Funai and is not the company it used to be. Check if the unit will play a audio CD, if it does the pickup assembly is bad, some will play a CD but not a DVD. You may be able to clean the p/u lens with alcohol and a Q-tip. The lens is under the clamp that holds the disc while spinning.

Why can't l play DVD's recorded on this recorder on other player

DVDs come in different versions.
Try using the -R DVDs. Once your DVD recorder finalizes the DVDs they should on any DVD palyer.

Check your manual to find out the finalizing method for your DVD recorder.

I hope this solution is helpful. Let me know.

What type of dvd used for player

Only a thought but not all DVD players recognise movies on recordable DVDs only original movie DVDs. This is more noticeable on brand players such as Sony.
The cheap models seem to recognise all regions, formats and DVD types.

Hi,

You should try a lens cleaner. The lens might just simply be dirty which is causing all your troubles.

Playing recorded DVDs on PC or other DVD player

Recordings from your DVD recorder should play on other DVD players as long as you finalize the recording on your recorder.

A PC should recognise an un-finalized, but only in a DVD writer drive.

There is a firmware upgrade available for this model. Follow this link and select your particular country version DVDR3320/XX

Select Software & Drivers and click on the link to the zip file.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
