Laptop wont connect to Di-614+

I have a DI-614= running two desktops with adapters. There are two laptops inthe house one being less than three years old and connects to wireless connection with no problem. The other laptop is an older Dell Latitude c840 which was just recently bought from a comptuer supplier that rebuilds or should i say cleans and reformats the system. The problem I have with it is that it will not connect to the dlink. I took this laptop to a wifi hotspot and it picks up internet connection with no problem. Any ideas on maybe compatiable issues or something else.

Since the Dell connects somewhere else, you know its wireless stuff is working. You may have signal issues at home, either low strength or interference. Try repositioning the router. Change its channel through the router setup page to see if that helps. Also be sure you have your security settings right in the laptop. This should get you going.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

New HP laptop will not connect to wireless secure network

Problem solved. I disabled the security on my network. I connected the new laptop to the unsecure network. I saved the settings on the laptop for the unsecure network. I rebooted the laptop. I re-enabled security on the router. I tried to connect to the network. I got an error on the laptop saying the network saved settings did not match. I modified the settings to a secure network on the laptop and saved the 128 bit key. Rebooted everything. All works fine now.

Can I piggyback a wireless router onto a hard-wired router?

Yes, you can connect the DI-624 to your exitsing EBR-2310, you just need to connect the a cable from port 4 of the EBR-2310 to the internet/wan port of the DI-624, then after that you can already use now the wireless to your laptop and also the wired router to your desktops.
But I may suggest you to just replace the EBR-2310 with the DI-624 so you will only be using 1 router that can cater your laptop and also your desktop, Just connect the cable from your modem that is conencted now to your EBR-2310 to the internet/wan port of the DI-624 then run the setup CD that should be it.

Hope that helps...........

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.

Setup Question

no if your pc is connected to the router, then that one has its connection which i assume will be either usb connected or ethernet connected. You laptop will connect via the wireless connection to the router, not your pc, so as long as your laptop has a wireless adapter then it will independantly connect to the router, your other pc does not have to be switched on as your router is connected to the net as long as it is switched on.
