I have researched that there has been numerous issues in this unit beyond warranty period just like this issue and the one I have with the DVD recorder. I am planning to write a letter to the company and need some supporters. If you like to put a response (one line with your name) in this link, I will include them as comments to the CEO of the company. I feel like we are being ripped by this company that sells products with defective and unreliable components.
Me too..! Never used the VCR for the year it was under warrenty and when I recently tried to play a tape it shut the unit down in about 6 seconds.
I had trouble with the DVD burner working spuratically...and then not burning a disc at all...and giving me an error message for a bad disc. Wrong. There was nothing wrong with the disc. Today I took the case off (6 screws) and blew the unit out with a hair dryer. I was going to clean the laser reader but had no denatured alcohol...put it back together turned it on...and it burned the disc it had rejected earlier. Maybe it just needed to be dusted...!

I have the same problem with Play,FF, REW. Goes for 5 to 7 seconds and shuts down. Hit power switch and tape ejects. It acts like there is a problem with the end of tape sensor. Does anyone know how the end of tape sensor in this thing works?

"Thank you for your inquiry,
It shouldn't do that.. it would need to be looked into.
Have you had this unit within the one year warranty along with the original receipt? We can service this unit if that is the case. Please reply back as soon as you can for further instructions or call our support line at 1-800-242-7158. Remember the receipt will be needed to verify that the unit is still within the one year warranty period.
Seems like no solution...bummer. Funai was no help. Same out of warrenty story and no idea what i was talking about. Tried to blame it on the unit being old. Too bad I didn't use the vcr side sooner!! it would still be under warranty. Well there's 180 bucks down the tubes.
I too am experiencing the same issue as my unit shuts down after a few minutes of use. I will never buy anything from this Funai again. Btw: unplugging it does work but only for a short amount of time and then the problem happens again. Very poor product.

VCR section seems have error in mechanism like incomplete loading of cassette, no spin of video head motor, high spin of capstan motor etc. You can observe above symptoms and let me know for further help.
To dub a DVD, first press Setup on the remote. Then select Recording (use the Up/Down arrows and then press OK). Navigate to and select Dubbing Mode. Select the direction for the duplication. Then press Setup to leave the Setup menu. Then press DVD to ensure that the unit is ready to play the DVD. (Press VCR if you are dubbing a video tape.) Then Press Play to advance to the section that you wish to duplicate, if needed, and then press Pause. (Press Pause a bit early; the dubbing process will lose about 5 seconds.) Now, press the other Mode button (VCR if recording to tape, DVD if recording to DVD). Next press D.Dubbing on the recorder or the remote. (The button is to the right of the Channel Up/Down buttons on the recorder. It's near the bottom left on the remote.) Press Stop when the section to be duplicated has been played in its entirety.
I am not positive if this will solve your issue but try this: Hit Cmskip and 1 - 2 -3 and it will show you the company details. Hit right arrow button and will take you to next page for other details. Again not sure if this info will solve the problem but worth a try. Remember to enter return and not Ok otherwise system will be reset.
make sure the tv is on channel 3, and the vcr also on channel 3 -if trying to record from cable or satalite. then make sure tape is rewound all the way. do a test by hitting record on vcr. let it record for a few minutes. rewind it, then just hit play. Dont change any channels until you are ready to record the program of choice. After this test. And recording is successful. Rewind the tape again. And change the channel to your choice. Hit record at time of or go into menu of your vcr and set up a time to record shows.
Arakawastore. As usual you'll need to register a username and password to logon with if you want to actually download the service manual. But you can see everything you want to know about it by clicking on the hotlink below without having to register beforehand.
If you're hoping to find it online for free all you'll do is waste vast amounts of time. If I had it in my PDF service library I'd gladly have provided you with it, just as I've done on numerous occasions before here on Fixya.
Not once has a single Fixya member ever bothered to acknowledge my having done so as you can tell by my huge 3 point ranking. Perhaps this best accounts for why we all still have to pay for them.
VCR is set with blank tape..Bring up vcr control on TV with television set on Chanel #3, go to menu
Follows procedure for progamming date, time start, time finish, chanel and.speed and single recording.finally click on menu and turn vcr off. Vcr lights indicate set for taping,,.Does no start to tape at requested time and lights indication taping ready stays on ??????
