Mine is installed also, and I've had to replace the bulb twice. I wised up the second time and installed an access hole where I can pull my microwave out about 6" and access the bulb. I use a 35 watt 120v halogen bulb, with a GY 8.6 base, Lowe's part number 15797. If your's is different, the specs will be stamped on the metal beside the reflector when you remove the sheetmetal. You have to remove the microwave completely from the cabinet and remove the sheetmetal case that surrounds the entire unit. You can then access the lamp socket by looking in from the top. The first time, I took out the reflector with the socket. The bulb can be replaced by removing the two small screws adjacent to the socket on top of the reflector. My access port is a hole cut into the top. I cover the hole with a piece of sheetmetal and two sheetmetal screws. Seems to work just fine. If you do decide to cut a hole, do so with the metal enclosure off and away from the microwave to avoid getting any metal shavings into the machine!

SOURCE: advantium noisy fan
It is probably the external cooling fan that is causing the problem, as this is usually the first one to come on, and the last one one to stop., and usually, these are located at the top of the unit.

If you have a hole on the magnetron cover then the magnetron is fried.
Typical G.E. microwave.
Same issue all the time.
Not worth replacing....maybe $150.00 to have a tech do it.
You can but a new microwave for $200.00 or under.

HI.If your timer button is a rotary. Timer switch button and if you gonna set and it runs however it does not stop. The timer switch button do mechanical control to stop the oven from working. So I suggests to check the timer inside the oven. The only way to stop is opening the door because the door will trigger the power source/button.So meaning the door connects to the power button. So check the timer inside it because it actually didn't work.Thank you for choosing FIXYA.

Sounds like a defective door interlock switch or a broken switch mount. If it's not a problem with the door switch or door switch mount you will need to replace the magnetron and the touch pad as well. This will fix your issue.
