First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.91310100

Next, see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I'd pull the cabinet, pump, motor and transmission and check the clutch.first.

See the following.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Possibilities are:

1. Neutral Drain Assembly Main Spin Gear destroyed,

2. Agitate Cams / Springs weak or damaged.

The best (and messiest ) solution is to pull the transmission and drive assembly and check the clutch and brake assembly's.

If they look OK, I'd pull the cover off the transmission and check the internal plastic pieces.

Lay the machine down (after disconnecting power and hoses, remove the pump (two clips), the motor (two screws hold two clips on the motor), lift and set the motor aside, remove two 1/2 inch bolts for the motor mounting plate and three 1/2 inch bolts for the transmission. Pull the transmission, remove the clutch (there is a spring clip that holds the clutch on the main agitator shaft, remove the 8 screws carefully the transmission holds 14 - 15Oz of oil, remove the clip holding the main spin gear on and check the plastic cams, gears etc.

Fortunately, these machines are relatively easy to fix and if any of the parts in the transmission are damaged, most are relatively inexpensive.

Following is the Whirlpool parts list for their commercial version washers although the consumer models use the same parts.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

Here is another Whirlpool PDF on how their transmissions work.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/2550f737b3129b0c85256b0600504738/$FILE/787772%20%234.pdf

As an aside, when ours had a couple of major problems (grinding when spinning and no agitate unless the lid was raised and lowered a couple of times) we found that replacing the agitate cams and Neutral Drain Assembly including some 80-90 weight gear oil cost less than $30 vs. $170 for a new transmission.

I have a kenmore elite washer model 26962502. It makes a loud banging noise on spin and turns slowly. What has broken? Underneath it looks like two pins have come out and fallen into little plastic c

Yes , it is possible that the heavy load could have made the suspension soft or the drive shaft could have shifted or damaged.
You need to remove and check the bearing and suspension ,

Washer wont spin

The brake cam driver has an ear on it. They tend to break off and this won't release the brake. If that is good then you might need to check the clutch.5ff0d60.jpg Look for a thin liner or oil on the clutch. If that is the case you need to change the tranny cover seal.1c95618.jpg If that is good then inspect the main drive gear and pinion.1edfdd4.jpg These gears get smooth and won't grab.3ce3530.jpg If that is good then remove the main drive gear and look for a smashed down spin pawl. If it is smashed down it won't catch a boss under the main drive gear and spin. Training Manual

Kenmore 80 series has loud banging sound during the spin cycle

I had a washer that at the beginning of the spin cycle it was fine, but when the water was half drained it would begin making a banging noise. When the draining reach the bottom and the spin speed increased it was fine. Finally found the problem - What happened was the tabs that hold the control arms for the brake had loosened. During the spin cycle especially in the middle of the cycle (when torque was at the maximum and speed was at medium. The brake spring would flex out due to compression and hit the some extended metal tab on the brake housing. Once the speed increased and the torque reduced the spring no longer hit the housing tabs. Fix the problem by bending the tabs that hold the brake control arms in place to better hold the control arms in the proper location.

I have a top loading washer model #4420716...it will spin but make very loud noise I am wondering if a belt or something broke...it sounds like the basket is hitting the sides of the washer.

Hi,

could be the brakes, if the loud noise is like a screech probably your brake rotor and lining need replacing.

Check and let me know.

Thanks.

Motor is humming loudly.

Motors hum, and your right, it could be no worse than normal.

I would be suspect that there is a gear stripped in the gearcase, since this is a direct drive washing machine.

Reassemble the motor back onto the washer. Run it through a cycle manually (rotate the timer by hand) until the motor turns, then look to see if it's turning. If it is, or even more so, if it pumps water out of the tub, then it is probably the stripped out gearcase.

Reply with you findings and more advice.

Slow to spin and making a loud noise.

Control boards don't growl, the fry out and die. Sounds like a drive train problem to me. If it's a front load machine, the spindle/bearing assy. has gone to washer heaven. If it's a top load machine... could be the transmission, brake/clutch assy. or the tub bearings. In either case, if it's less than 5 years old, the drive system will be warrantied through the manufacturer. If you could provide a make and model number, I could narrow this down to a fine point.
