Question about APC Smart-UPS 1000VA UPS System

1 Answer

Our Smart-UPS 1000 is brand new but will not charge and/or hold a charge. The battery is connected. When I press the test button several lights come on the front panel. On the far right side the battery recharge shows just one light. On the left side the first and second LEDs are lit. Any assistance would be great - thanks

Hi Smittydee

UPS's by and large are maintenance free beasts meaning there's not a whole lot you can do to fix them. In my experience if one fails it's usually the battery. If it's not the battery then the whole unit is replaced. As you unit is new I'd recommend simply taking it back for a new one, or getting hold of a new battery to try. You test the battery theory if you have another of the exact same model and borrowing the battery.

Hope this helps,

Scott.

Changing the battery

If your Tripp LIte Omni 1000 LCD display a fault icon and beeps after changing the battery, try the advice given by the buzzerman which worked perfect in this case:

1. Turn the UPS on. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second.

2. Run a Self-Test: Press and hold the MUTE/TEST button for two seconds (until beeps several times). The test will last 10 seconds. All LCD Display icons will be illuminated and the alarm will sound. At the end of this process the fault icon and the beeping turned off.

I have a brand new APC 1000xl I just plugged into the wall and it beeps every second with all the lights changing with each beep.

You can push and hold the on button to start a self test. Or you can turn off the UPS. Unplug it from the wall. disconnect the batteries and push the on button to reset the logic. if that wont work return it.

Apc smart 1000 ups after changing batteries all right are blinking

Is this the RT or the VT or the RM or the XL? Recheck the UPS's batteries by conducting a battery test. Press the I/Test button to initiate the battery test. If All LED are lit and the UPS emits a constant beeping then there is a internal fault.
FRONT PANEL LEDS FLASH SEQUENTIALLY: The UPS has been shut down remotely through software or an optional accessory card.
If all else fails then remove the input power. Unplug the batteries. Check the fuses in the back. If fuses are ok then push and hold the power button. This will reset the logic. Plug batteries back in, apply power and hopefully all is ok. If not then purchase another UPS the cost to repair it will be more then what it's worth

Automatic: The UPS performs a self-test automatically when turned on, and every

two weeks thereafter (by default). During the self-test, the UPS briefly operates the

connected equipment on battery.
Manual: Press and hold the button for a few seconds to initiate the self-test

REPLACE BATTERY LED ILLUMINATES

Replace Battery LED flashes and

short beep is emitted every two

seconds to indicate the battery is

disconnected.

Check that the battery connectors are fully engaged.

Weak battery. Allow the battery to recharge for 24 hours. Then, perform a self-test. If the

problem persists after recharging, replace the battery.

Failure of a battery self-test. The UPS emits short beeps for one minute and the Replace Battery LED

illuminates. The UPS repeats the alarm every five hours. Perform the self-test

procedure after the battery has charged for 24 hours to confirm the Replace

Battery condition. The alarm stops and the LED clears if the battery passes the
self-test.

Hello! I'm from Riyadh Saudi Arabia. I've left on my Tripp Lite UPS 1000 just last night. When I came in my office in the morning, my desktop computer including my computer server was OFF. I supprised that...

Unplug the computer. Then run the UPS self-test and the unit will display whether it finds an overload fault, whether the battery needs to be charged or replaced.
Here are the instructions (copied from the User Manual):
Turn UPS on: Press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second.

Run a Self-Test: Press and hold the MUTE/TEST button for two seconds (until alarm beeps several times).

The test will last 10 seconds. All LCD Display icons will be illuminated and the alarm will sound.

If the fault icon remains lit, the battery-supplied outlets are overloaded. Unplug powered devices until you remove the overload.

If the "Replace" icon remains lit and alarm continues to sound, the UPS batteries need to be recharged or replaced. Allow UPS to charge for 24 hours and repeat self-test.

Blinking lights

The problem is, is that while the unit is not overloaded (too much plugged in) either the batteries are close to failure, OR more likely you have so much plugged in you have less than 2 minutes of runtime.

Try removing some devices, lower the load. The row of green lights on the left is your load level indication, you want no more than 4 lit usually, 80% load is the most recommended. This will allow more runtime and should stop the flashing.

The flashing is just ment to alert you to less than two minutes of runtime.

If you have 80% load or less, and it still flashes, press and hold the on/test button until it clicks over to battery, the unit will now run a self test and switch back to main power after a few seconds and it should stop blinking.

If you want a copy of your user manual, you can find it here: http://www.refurbups.com/KB-M-Smartups (the Smart-UPS 1000)

Smart UPS 1500 - battery level green lights blink on and off

You need to run recalibration on the unit.  The supplied PowerChute software & cable will allow you to do this if you hook the UPS up to a PC (I know it works with the serial cable, not sure about USB).  If you only have a MAC then I cannot offer a solution other than to buy the standalone PowerView device from APC.  It will cost a bit more than a battery, but may save you from buying needless batteries in the future.  I finally broke down an bought one, but note that I was still having the problem after the 1st recalibration.  By trial and error (and maybe a vague memory) I put my MAC in sleep mode, that dropped the load to stop the lights from flashing.  Then I recalibrated with a 22% load and now it finally seems better (lights no longer flashing).  This was with a Smart-UPS 1000.
Let me know if that helps.
