thank you for this information. however, the problem is not in recording but playing. i press the play button and it doesn't play. everything seems to be working but the tape keeps popping out. it is as if something is not in the right combination. i did not have a problem playing a tape before recording a program a few weeks ago. now i can't get it to play

Are you trying to record on a protected tape? Does it do this on all tapes?...accordianman

Two things now come to mind,. First, there might besometihing in the transport that is causing a bind and not allowing the cassette to seat properly. Next would be the possibility that the tape can not be tensioned by the mechanism for whatever reason. This "pretension" is necessary for the machine to begin running a tape, recording or playing back...accordianman

do you have a cable box connected. If you do you have to tell the vcr to record on channel 3 or 4 (whichever you have the tv tune to regularly) then put the cable box on the channel you want to record the show on

How can I record TV show? What buttons do I push?

Well my friend, you have many variables that can cause this issue. Here is a list.

  1. Check the tape record prevention tab to see if it is not missing that will cause it NOT to let you record. Put a piece of scotch tape over it if you wish to use that tape.
  2. Make sure it plays back. If it does not play back, it might not record.
  3. Turn the TV on, look for Audio and "Video Out" and connect it to the INPUT Video Out and Audio Out. You cannot use the TV to power the VCR. The power plug must be connected to the wall outlet.
One of these should solve your issue.

Tv/digital converter box & vcr-dvd hook-up

I have a vhs and dvd player all in one
I have a converter box hooked up to my tv and vcr , dvd player combined
I can play my movies on the tv. ok.
you have to have your tv and vcr set on channel 3. if that is what your main tv is set up with. Or 4 if you have your tv set up with that.
Mine plays ok. My settings are for channel 3
My suggestion would be to check your hook ups. maybe they are not hooked up correctly
I had to go to www.google.com and did searches to help with hook up.
I can also record station I am watching with vcr on vsh tapes. I do not have a dvd recorder.
I found out that you have to have 2 converter boxes hooked to one tv., in order to record on on station while watching another. I have not tried that, as I don't have 2 converter boxes for one tv. I found that by doing google search also. Good Luck

Recording problem on Sony SLV-R1000

The deck needs a good cleaning. Try using a brand new tape and run it on playback for 20 min or so. You could try using a cleaning tape, but many of them are abrasive. If this doesn't work, you need a deck re-alignment which will cost more than your set is worth.

Vcr to tv connection

There are probably a couple of different ways to hook things up. One is you hook the VCR "in between" the indoor antenna & the set. Hook antenna to VCR RF/Ant In, then VCR RF/Ant out to the Antenna input on TV. Your VCR will then be able to record one channel, while you watch another on TV. To play back the VCR, or do any VCR setup, TV channel must be set to either channel 3 or 4. The other way is to use the Video & audio input/outputs on the VCR & TV. You will need the appropriate cable(s). Match the VCR video/audio outs with the set of inputs on TV. Video and audio out on the TV go back to the video/audio inputs on VCR. In order to view VCR playback, menu setup, you will need to select that input (line, aux, video 1 etc.) on the TV. This hookup probably won't allow the recording of a second channel while watching one. As regards the hft channels, I assume you live in an area where such is being broadcast. The TV can probably be put into a programming mode where it will scan for all available channels, and put them into memory, or they can be programmed manually.
