HI. Your symptoms are a strong indication Magnetron failure. This is the principal heating device, that is used to produce microwaves that , essentially, excite the water molecules in the food, thus, producing the heating effect. When this device fails, generally, the unit will run, but not heat. This device is very fragile, and can injure you if you are not qualified to handle this type of component. There is a High Voltage Capacitor, that is used to help provide the necessary current for optimal Magnetron operation. This capacitor must be discharged correctly. If not, you could risk serious injury, during the repair, if it is accidental touched.

The Magnetron is linked to a cut-off fuse. If the magnetron becomes unstable, this fuse will shut the device down. It is standard procedure to have this fuse test for continuity. If the fuse has blown, this will be the culprit. Replace the fuse. Now, if the fuse continues to show continuity, this will confirm that the Magnetron has failed. I would advise to inspect the Capacitor, and HV diode for visible burn marks, or swollen top(Cap).

Access can be ac hived to these parts by removing the outside cabinet screws. Once the screws are removed, the cover can be removed, as well. Once the cover is removed, the internal components will be exposed for testing, and visual inspections.

WARNING: IF YOU ARE NOT A QUALIFIED SERVICE TECH, THIS WILL NOT BE A NOVICE DO IT YOURSELF JOB. MICROWAVES ARE VERY DANGEROUS, AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. I RECOMMEND TO CALL FOR SERVICE, IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH HANDLING THE CAPACITOR, OR MAGNETRON.

My Kenmore microwave let out a huge gun-shot/bomb sounding noise when I attempted to heat a cup of coffee---same cup used many times, no metal in it. Light still comes on in microwave; not an electrical...

Open it and check the HV transformer isn't burnt(you can see physically).
Usually that is the main cause of it.
BEFORE TRY TO OPEN IT MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG MICROVAVE FOR 1 HR.IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DESCHARGE CAPACITOR THEN OPEN OVEN DISCHARGE CAPACITOR AND THEN TRY TO FIX IT.
THANKS

Stopped working normally, makes low grumbling noise

have a look at the glass plate rollers first if there sticky free them off, but if the noise is from the inside of the microwave its likley to be a short in the mains coil witch case dont even think of fixing it
it would be far cheeper to buy a new microwave insted
a word of warning,,, dont think you can fine an easy fix for it, if its an internal fult, and dont go tinkering inside of it, there is very high voltage inside this microwave it can kill you if you tuch the wrong part have ever seen a police stun gun working???????
it realy hurts you,,,
your microwave has the stun guns very big brother inside of it,, it dont stun,, it kills!!!!
best to plat it safe dump it and buy a new one
there only about £50 today
so is your life worth more than £50???????/

The microwave makes a popping noise, then a loud grinding noise

this could be any thing? first ask yourself how old is it???
if its more that 3 years old you would be better off just dumping it as getting it fixed would cost more that its worth??
and there so cheep now too!
however dont go trying to get inside of it to see if you can fix it yourself
there is a lot of very hight voltage in there even if its been turned off for a long time,,this voltage is in the 1000's of volts and it kills
have you ever seen a stun gun working???????????
well this microwave has the stun guns very big brother inside of it,,
it dont stun,,,, it kills! is it realy worth taking a risk for a fuw bucks?
please play it safe

GE Microwave/Convection Oven - Door Glass Just Exploded!!!

This happened to us 3 weeks ago with our 3 year old Kitchenaid microwave. Several hours after its last use it just shattered. In doing research I discovered that this has also happend with GE microwaves, all 3 years old. The cause seems to have been a batch of defective glass supplied by a third party. Whirlpool was very quick to cover the cost of the replacement, even though our microwave was out of warrantee.

Microwave made loud popping sound and now does not heat.

Hey,
Try this
Probably a high voltage diode popped because contaminated grease eventually built up and made a path for a high voltsge arc to occur.. To confirm, take the outer cover off the microwave and discharge the high voltage capacitor by shorting its terminals. Then pull the plug off the magnetron side and place it near the magnetron socket. Now turn the microwave on and push the connector on the magnetron with a chopstick or a long insulated screwdriver. If no arc when you do this this confirms a bad diode.

please rate my suggestion..

Microwave works, new noise

It could be a bad magnetron, or it may be mild arcing due to food particles or grease on or behind the waveguide cover.

No microwave should ever be left unattended while running.

Dead replaced fuse now makes loud noise

Yes that noise is causing your fuse to blow. Machine gun sound sounds like the High Voltage Capacitor or High voltage diode is bad. (Loud humming sound is usually a bad magnetron or bad power transformer). Most of these parts are inexpensive, except for the magnetron. But most of the repair bill is most likely going to be for labor.

Based on your model, it looks like an over the range microwave. And to fix any of these problems require the removal of the microwave from the wall. So its up to you if you want to deal with that hassle. But you also have to consider that you'll probably have a hard time trying to find a new microwave that will fit.
