For that first make sure that your desktop and laptop in same network.
Then you can use printer with 2 method first connect your printer to directly to 1 computer then you can share that printer from it then you can use your printer in network.
but if your printer supports network then connect your printer to router or switch then set ip settings in printer as your network ip then you can use your printer in network from any computer.
