Question about Microwave Ovens

Open Question

My microwave oven( a Twinbird), will stop suddenly

My microwave oven( a Twinbird DR-4215; 60 Hz), will stop suddenly when operating under normal conditions, then start up again on its own. It does this inconsistently, but fairly often recently. What do you think the problem is?

I have model # MMV5000ADA ,13.5 amps, watts 1450, vac 120, HZ 60, DHHS code No. H7NF Manfactured in Cleveland, OH in April 1998.

My problem started when I was defrosting some fish. I turned on the light under the hood at the same time and I got a bright flash from the light unit and the microwave stopped working. I believed that both lights had blown. Since then, I have attempted to replace the lights { I get no response}. When I start the microwave, I get a humming sound and the food does get hot, but it is not evenly heated. Also, the vent fan is not working. No circuit breakers were tripped and all other operations on the microwave keyboard continue to function except the light switch. I have unplugged the microwave for several days and then attempted to operate the microwave with the same results. I have defrosted meat before and turned on the lights simultaneously, but I this never happened before. The turntable is not working, but the vent fan settings [high & low] both work when I turn them on manually.

I would consult the owner's manual, but normally no.

The controller is dependent on getting the proper 50Hz (or 60Hz, depending) signal to assure proper operation.

It sounds like a shorted high voltage capacitor, a fairly cheap fix. But if it's good, I would suspect the high voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or a friend can use for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

You have two options for this model:

We can repair your control unit for $39.95 in about a week or you can order a modified control unit with our proprietary upgrades for $115, then if you return your defective control unit in repairable, good cosmetic condition, we'll give you a core refund of $30.

A defective clock would be the cause, the voltage is regulated by the oven circuit board, so line voltage would rally need to be way off to affect the operation of the clock. Ranges of line voltage here in USA are 110V-120V

Microwave stopped working all of a sudden. NO power supply. I tried placing at different places. But no use..I ddidn't see any problem before it stopped working..

the most common problem with microwaves is the door protection circuit blows a fuse. the door catches operate switch that if they do not operate correctly( normally after the door has been slammed). the good part is they place the fuse inside the casing. so remove the power open the casing( several screws) and check all the fuses in side.
