I accidentally sat on my Olympus 5.0 camera and now the zoom is not working. a technician looked at it and somehow made it worst. before i could take pictures but now nothing is coming on the screen. What do you think is the problem and can it be fixed

Either it has received a knock or other accidental blow, or else there is foreign matter (dirt, crumbs, grit etc) in the mechanism. It would cost far more than a replacement camera to have it serviced, I'm afraid, and is certainly not the kind of task to be attempted without expert knowledge.

This problem appears malfunction of the zoom motor and it needs replacement, actually zoom motor start malfunction due to dust/dirt or any kind of ****, and if you can replace it from any expert nearby it will work fine again, one more thing which often work but it just kind a trick try it may be your camera accept it but i can not guarantee you that it will fix, follow the procedure below:

turn camera on and slap it into your wrist ( side on) do this quite firmly. Turn off then on again It should then work correctly. If not keep trying It will eventually clear. Often it is dirt or a grain of sand in the mechanism.

Just try it this can help to solve the problem.

You may want to call Olympus Customer Service to discuss their repair policy and procedures. They will have suggestion as far as repair goes or give you a local place to take it for service. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

I would try resetting the camera back to factory specifications. You can do this by selecting mode reset under the shooting mode menu. If this doesn't work I would have it looked at be an authorized service technician.

This camera does not allow the user to actually turn off the optical zoom, but does allow the user to shut off the digital zoom. If you are talking about the digital zoom make sure it is turned on in through the menu system. As far as the optical zoom goes make sure you are not in playback mode. If this doesn't work you can try having the camera reset to the original settings every time you shut off the camera by choosing this option under the setup menu in playback mode. If none of this works have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician.

You can replace the lens on the camera through a authorized service technician, but often with digital camera repairs the cost of the repair exceeds the price of the camera. I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service tech.

Check you haven't accidentally got the camera into some fixed-zoom mode ("Super-Macro" is a favourite for this on Olympus cameras).

purchase another card (smaller memory and cheaper...as a test). install it. if it works, then read file folder names under windows and then copy these folders over to the 1GB card.

Theres a lttle tab thatmay have broken off I,ve seen it a zillion times.. Consult your owners manual and it will show you how it goes on and if it dosent work like the manual says it probably broken good luck
