It could be an indication that the main bearings are failing, or it could be an effect known as grease balling.
This is caused by washing at too low a temperature, or not using enough powder, or using the wrong type of powder.
If it is the bearings, then I would expect it to be getting noisy, particularly on the spin cycle.
Hope this helps.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

Kenmore 70 grease spots

If your starting to see black grease or oil spots on your clothes after washing and it seems to happen more and more chances are the transmission seal is busted and either the whole transmission or just the seal needs replacing.

The clothes are being pulled under the agitator, getting tangled and grease/oil marks on the clothes. What can be done to correct this?

If the clothes are being pulled under the rotating plate, you need to replace the plate because the plastic-sealing-edge strip is not pressing tightly against the inside of the washtub. I did this and all has been good for a year. The grease COULD be from the rotating parts under the plate, but there is also a post on this Fixya site that has to do with replacing a transmission seal. I have not had the dirty-streaks problem, so I cannont comment on a fix for that. BUT, replacing the rotating plate WILL fix the issue with pulling clothes under it.

Seems to bee grease getting in from sum where as

Take off the agitator and look for signs of oil coming from under collar that supports the agitator.
If so it means that the seal has gone and water has got into the transmission forcing the lubrication oil to be pushed up through the seal.
Big job to repair.Sorry

Fairly new ge washer spitts out grease/oil from under agitater

Remove the agitator and inspect the upper shaft bearing condition by trying to push the shaft in various directions. It should not be possible to observe movement in a good bearing. If the bearing looks good, then replace the rubber seal just under the plastic block on the shaft top. You must be very careful not to damage the shaft where the seal lip rides. If the bearing is loose, the machine must be torn down to remove the shaft from the supporting post.

When we run the wash, black marks appear on some clothes. No pens or foreign objects are in the washer.

It can either be the rubber seal around the washer door or the bearings (normally sealed) for the tub may be leaking and getting grease into the tub. I think usually the bearing grease is brown in color. For some reason, as the rubber seals deteriorate, they tend to mark up clothes. At least that has been my experience. You may try wiping them down with some sort of cleaner (fantastic, greased lightening, etc) and see if that helps any.

Grease on my freshly washed cloths

This sounds like a seal problem in the base of the agitator. This seal is what keeps the water inside the machine and the grease out of the wash basin. It is not something that should be attempted to repair if you are not mechanically inclined.

To get the grease out of your clothes, use an engine de-greaser which can be bought from any automotive parts store. You just spray the de-greaser on the area where the grease is located and rub it in by hand. You will need to use lots of soap to remove the de-greaser from your clothes, and might have to wash the item twice, to get rid of the de-greaser smell from the clothes.

Note, the de-greaser will break down all oil stains and grease stains, and is an oil by-product. This has worked for me on many occasions, but I have only used it on denim jeans and cotton shirts, with excellent results.

Gray marks on light colored clothes

That is exactly what it is, grease. It is coming from the transmission past a worn or defective seal usually the transmission will have to be replaced.
