There's either a physical switch on the laptop or a key that has a wifi symbol on it. Also try enabling wireless adapter in windows.

You may have possibly turned on Airplane Mode, which disables your 3g/4g connection. To turn this off:

1) On your homescreen, click the menu button and then settings

2)Click on Wireless & networks

3) Uncheck Airplane mode

Let me know if this isn't the issue!

This morning the computers on the network can't get to the internet. A direct connection to the cable modem works, so something is up with the wireless. Any ideas on how to check for problems?

A wireless configuration is needed. It might be a disabled wireless which needs to be enabled or the password has been changed somehow. to access the wireless router:On the computer which is connected directly (wired), open any browser such as Internet Explorer and in the address bar type and hit enter. Use "Admin" for the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears. You're now in setting windows and can enable or disable the wireless or change the wireless password.

When i try to connect to my wireless rounter it doesn't show that its there. it says something about turning on the wireless switch

There is no manual switch on the stepnote 1500 like on other laptops, yet somehow it occasionally gets turned off. Press the FN + F2 keys. That should turn it back on.

Can't connect to 2WIRE

I had a similar issue. Here's what I did; Directly connect to the router via ethernet cable; I went to Start>Programs>Accessories>Run; then type in ipconfig, look at the number for the default gateway and type it into your browser's address bar (mine was Now that your in the router, click on the Home Network or View Home Network. At some point it might prompt you for a password. Click Wireless Settings near the top of the screen. From this page I changed the channel to 6 (not quite sure if it did anything) and changed the Power Setting to 10.
After that I was able to connect wirelessly.

''unable to connect to selected network'' error

If you can connect your laptop to other wireless and others can connect to your wireless but you cannot means that its on your laptop wireless network configuration.

If you have Windows XP, go to Start > Connect to > right click on your wireless connection and select "Properties". Choose the "Wireless Network" tab and under "Preferred networks" remove ALL wireless network, reboot your PC and then go here again and then re-Add your own wireless network only. After you Add highlight it and click "properties" button. Checked "Connect even if this network is not broadcasting and if you have put a security on your wireless to select the correct authentication type.

Then on "Connection" tab checked "Connect when this network is in range". On "Advanced" tab make sure to Uncheck "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks".

On Windows Vista delete all Preferred Networks under "Manage Wireless Networks",(under Network and Sharing Center on Control Panel). then turn off and on your pc. And then try to reconnect and make sure this time, PC will ask for network key. ( if you set it up that way )

I have just bought a laptop (acer5315)& its connecting to the internet(even though i dont have wireless internet access in my house)how is this happening please?i do have a cable connection through...

no you are probably unaware that you have connected to a neighbours connection who stupidly has not security encrypted the router.

It is illegal to use somebody elses connection without their permission, so i would suggest turning off the wireless adapter (slider button at front of notebook) until you get your own wireless connection.
