This could be a simple repair. The blower wheel in the exhaust housing maybe free spinning on the shaft. If it is replace the blower wheel. If not the motor has gone bad.

Timer does not tick and dryer does not reverse direction

The timer not moving is a sure sign it needs replaced. Fortunately replacing it is easy. Just search for your make and model dryer and order the timer. Remove the power, the back panel with the timer, the knob on the timer, and just a couple of screws and it's out. One by one move wires from old timer to new, install the reverse as taking it out. Put the knob back on, and the back panel. Plug it in, and you should be golden.

Ah, I just saw you answered in your own question! Good job! :-)
Anytime the drum turns, with or without heat, and the timer makes noises, doesn't move, has to be wiggled to start, or the start position changed, you can bet it's the timer. We just don't want to take a risk because it's one of the most expensive parts to replace, usually the motor costs a bit more, but seldom go out. Don't waste time troubleshooting other parts if any of the above applies, it's usually the timer.

Fisher and paykel dryer not working

If what you meant is that the dryer does not work but you hear the clicking noise , the fault is due to a faulty TIMER.
The stepper motor within the mechanical timer unit is SLIPPING either at the gear or the tooth and so doe not make the timer to move forward.
You can remove the timer and use some WD 40 but if there is wear-off on the gear the timer must be replaced unless you can source this from an old unit.

Rex4635eq2 electric dryer. all switches and fuses check out. Nothing comes on and the timer doesnt move or make a clicking noise when i push the start button. what do you think? Timer? Gary

You need to check your door switch and thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is located behind the back panel at about 6 oclock. If the thermal fuse is bad, you need to make sure the vent is clean.

Grinding noise in Maytag dryer

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication. If you have a front loading machine, Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer. Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor. Now is a good time to check the belt condition for wear. Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt. Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem. I will include these two websites for parts and further help: http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7. Dryer Timer running very slow

1st of all make sure you have 110vac to the timer motor, usually the 2 black wires, if you do and the timer won't advance then you do have a bad motor and you would have to replace the whole timer. If you do not have 110v to the timer motor, try selecting the Timed mode. If it advances in the timed mode then the problem isn't the timer, the problem could be poor air flow( plugged up vent or blower wheel) causing dryer to cycled off of the limit and not the thermistat which is how most auto modes work. Good Luck

Dryer will not start

when you turn the select knob, you set up the internal cams of the timer. when you press to start or pull to start, you energize the timer motor (buzz) the timer opens the water solenoids. the diaphragm switch senses the water level and moves the timer to the next step. agitate starts for the timed cycle. when its finished the motor kicks in in opposite direction to drain and pump water out.
