How do I disable the onboard video in a Gateway

How do I disable the onboard graphics in a Gateway GT5475E Desktop? My new card does not show up in the Device Manager. My new card is a ATI Radeon HD 4850. This is the second PCI-e card that would not show up in the Device Manager.

In the bios there should be a tab for onboard devices. Just scroll through the tabs until you find one called VGA. Cycle through the options and pick disable if the option is enable/disable only selections....or pick auto if the choices are either onboard or pci-x , pci, etc.....

Im trying to disable the on board graphics card so i can install then new on i just bought. i have a gateway GT4024 and the onboard graphics card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series

Your board has ATI integerated graphics, no need to remove. You would upgrade by adding a PCIe express card in slot. Do you have such a card? If you need installation instructions, let me know at "add a comment"

Greetings, I have a Gateway 832Gm Media Center PC, I want to add a Radeon HD 5550 graphics card to get the ability to get dual monitor support. My question is do I disable the chipset via the bios or can...

Hi,
Most likely what you will want to do is just turn your resolution down to it's lowest settings. and turn off unplug the computer and install the card. Plug the monitor into the card and then boot up the computer. Sometimes depending on the computer you may have to disable the onboard video in the bios but a lot of times you don't. If you do run into an issue you can unplug the card hook the monitor back up the onboard video, then if need be disable the onboard driver, by going to control panel, then system properties, then device manager and then under video adapter disable the drivers for the onboard video but it shouldn't be necessary.
Thank you,
Lee
