You can download the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista from the Microsoft Download center by clicking these links (according to the operating system of the computer):

Service Pack 2 for Vista 32-bit

Service Pack 2 for Vista 64-bit

Also, kindly read the installation instructions in this Microsoft help article before proceeding with the service pack update.

It would be safer and easier if you download and install the service pack 2 through an automatic update (Method 1)

Wish you all the best and hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.

You should remove the game from the computer, to do this you need to restart the computer press F8,then use last known good configuration,if it do not solve the problem then restart and press F8 again and select safe mode, go to control panel use system restore to restore the computer to a date before the problem started.

Hold down the f8 key while booting up.This will put it in safe mode.

once there, try setting the restore point to last known good configuration.

This should bring you back to before the update.

Vista service pack 2 is very large and can take awhile to install.

Try updating the service pack again. After you get running.

I have a laptop that was downloading Windows Vista Service Pack 2. The laptop will no longer boot to Windows. How can I fix this problem?

I would use your restore disks and restore your laptop. once you have done that try downloading the service pack again and if it happens again i would likely suggest the hard drive is gone. Make sure you back up your data though as it will be lost when u restore the laptop

Hello Dean

In Ideal scenarios your Restore Disks should work even if you have the Vista on the computer.
I hope you are using the right steps in order to perform that restore as you need to boot up using the disk 1.

Another step you can do is to Reinstall the XP using a disk(Which you may borrow from someone) after formating the harddrive, however you will have to reinstall all the software programs and the drivers as well.

Hope this helps.
