Having trouble playing GTA IV online-on occasion I have noticed the GTA multiplayer screen says "NAT is set to STRICT-you may have difficulty connecting to online games, blah, blah, blah." I have searched for this online and it only seems to reference an XBOX machine, but I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and playing on a Gateway DX-4710 with a (nVidia) PNY GT9500 video card. I play other games online no problem. Do I need to open specific ports on my computer just for this game? Any settings on my router need to be changed? FYI, I have UPnP enabled on the router, no change. I have also set my gaming computer as the default DMZ, but no changes there. My router is a NETGEAR model RP614V2 and I have ensured that it DOES have the latest firmware. I have the manual for this router but the terms aren't consistent with the menu. Appreciate any input anyone can offer. Thanks again.

Xbox one? If so go to settings and look at net work (or where ever your Nat type is displayed) and click the button with the word multiplayer on it (it checks the multiplayer speed) then when it's done and complete don't back out at that "complete" screen hold the following buttons LT, LB,RT,RB at one time and it will give you an accurate report of your Nat then back out and look at your Nat type if it didn't work the first time repeat. Hope this helps
Hi there I can sort understand what you mean and I think this is the answer. If you cannot be heard normally in chat when online even though your mic is turned on or you have made sure that in preferences, you went in to audio settings and made sure you were not on mute? My guess is your having issues with your NAT settings as this can affect you chat settings when online. For example, xheck your NAT status and if it is MODERATE or STRICT then this is why. If you NAT is OPEN then it is because the players you are playing with have a NAT issue. MODERATE and STRICT NAT's will limit what you can do online, including chatting. Hope this answers your question :) TEEMAN
Hmm... This reminds me (as best as the limited detail can) of the issue when GTA:IV came out and if you had wireless enabled it crashed the system as well... Rockstar endedup having to release a patch to fix the issue, but I think if that was the case, the message boards accross the net would be flooded with the same kind of email.
A few simple things... A- Double check to make sure multiplayer is working with any other game you have that you have not experienced this problem with. B- Try reseting your internet connection in the system settings menu C- How is your PS3 connected, wired or wireless... If it's possible, try switching to the opposite connection type see if that helps. That's what I did for GTA:IV prior to the patch being released
If the problem has something to do with NAT firewall in your router, then you may need to open certain application ports for your XBOX in the router. You may check this link from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874 that talks about NAT firewall and XBOX live.
