For years I have a Lumix FZ30 working perfectly. Suddenly since yesterday, when I shift the start button from "off" to "on" the Camera does not react at all. Batteries OK, no previous problems! Any idea?

I had the same problem with my FZ30, bought 2 new batteries, cleaned the contacts and still no answer, camera seems to be dead, in my country there is not a panasonic service center so i have to do it myself.

@ samdeca - Please tell me how did you solve your cam problem, if you did solve it ?

@ rajdeepdutta - there is no reason for the power button to shorten, the cam was on the bag, standing there, 2 days before i used it and it works perfectly, battery contacts were ok, its just so weird no response at all, any other suggestion will be appreciated

@ rajdeepdutta - i tried all your suggestions:
    Batteries - charged 7.4v out
The lens cannot be removed from the cam so no way dirt can get in.
Tried the shaking technique, no response
Left the cam some 15mins without bat and card, plugged the bat, still no response
Tried both reset methods, nopes nopes

No response at all from the camera, seems to be dead, even searched around internet, many people had the same problem with FZ30 cam, i presume it must be a permanent standby mode, dont know what to think, pls any other suggestions ?!

    thanks in advance

I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ 30. The power light does not go off even 1-2 minutes after switching the camera off. This drains the battery very fast. Is this just a setting problem?

I could give some simple and possible answer. Your camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 is quite simple but good camera. Unfortunately it could be the lens unit doesn't work properly or the main PCB(printed circuit board). First the lens unit problem is right then you can bring it to any skillful local camera repair shop. But second problem you just have to use as a paper weight because most of panasonic part are very expensive. Most of case it exceed camera value. Now you camera is about 5 or 6 years old. The decision is yours. Oh! maybe the last possible chance is internal of camera circuitry connector( FPC--flexible printed circuitry) off position. I do once in a while see them. Thanks and good luck with you..

Lumix DMC- FZ30 - screen is black when camera is turned on

Check if you have activated the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). Press the EVF/LCD button to switch to the LCD screen. If this fails to solve the problem, change the mode dial to Auto (the red camera icon) or 'P' and try again. If even this does not work, check with the nearest authorized service center.
