You'll get this error if you previously downloaded the media update on another Xbox 360 console (or if it's been repaired/replaced as in my case) with the same profile. You are only allowed to download the update on one console per profile. You can work around this by creating a temporary new profile with Silver membership to download the update. Once it's downloaded, you will be able to use the update with any profile.

    I also found this

The most recent update disallows, external storage devices from
connecting to your xbox 360. That is most likely your problem.

so you could try burning it onto a cd or dvd

I assume you are using the Windows Media Player to play the .avi formats on your OS Windows PC?

If this is the case, you do not have the necessary "codecs" to play the .avi files. Download & install the latest codec package ie K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or K-Lite Codec Pack @ http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

Hope it helps.

Xbox has downoladed new update an still cant play .avi files off my hardrive?? error code

Certain files can't be played even if they say they're .avi. And this is considering you have downloaded the "extra update" on the marketplace for media files. Or you can try deleting the update and redownloading it.

I have download a video file i cant play

So do you use Windows Media Plyaerto replay some videos? I afraid WMP can not support all of video format, and there is nothing wrong with your computer. You can download the code or download the Leawo Free AVI Converter to convert your video to avi and then replay in WMP.

Hi

This status code is for a Media Update available on Xbox Live Service, which enables you to play .AVI (Mostly DivX format) and .MP4 movies, you should be able to see this Download under all downloads section of XBL Service with the Name "Optional Media Update"

you can take a look at my tip which i have created on how to connect to xbox live service in 5 easy steps

CANNOT PLAY MED PLAYER AVI ETC FILES ON XBOX - NO VIDEOS FOUND.

Hi there.

I had the same problem. I solved mine by re-downloading the Optional Media Update from xbox live, and everything was fine after that.

Hope that works for you too.

AVI formatted files behave as audio only

It is likely that the files are encoded with DIVX, you can download the Divx plugin for windows Media playere here.
http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/

watch your options on the install to avoid those pesky toolbars

No audio on AVI files

Hi :

I would download virtualdub (free), install a divx convertor (free to some level), and input your original file in virtualdub (file-open file), check the video tab from VDUB, click compression, select divx, and save the file as an .avi file on harddisk of yr computer. If finished, check this avi file with a media player (winamp or so), see if it plays correctly, then transfer the file to your Archos. This will work.

I believe, when you converted, a stray codec was used for audio)

AVI file is not running

With .avi files the issue is usually which video codec has been used to encode it - all players will have certain codecs installed, and if the second player you describe does not have the approprtiate codec then it will struggle to play the file - occasionally the audio codecs can have the same effect, also on video. In your video conversion program you should be able to choose from a list of codecs to use to encode the .avi file, check which one you used and then check it is installed on the computer that is experiencing the problem. Windows media player, if it is fully updated should be able to cope with the majority of codecs, the best player for .avi files at the moment is DivX player, available free for download at; http://www.divx.com divx player also may need to be fully updated after you install it, this is an easy procedure, just click "Check for new versions" in the "help" menu to make sure you have the latest divx codecs installed Hopefully this will allow you to play the files on both machines. If you still have trouble, then type the name of the codec used by your converter program into a search engine, and you should find a location to download it from with installation instructions. Hope this helps, ask again if you still have trouble :)
