Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Photo with lots of blue sky show that the EOS

Photos with lots of blue sky show that the EOS 350D generates several greyish translucent spots on every picture. It seem like dirt on the lens, but they always appear in the same postion regardless of the lens used. Any idea how to fix this and how expensive a job it might be. The camera is 4-5 years old and seems fine in every other respect.

If the problem is as you say in the lens, then it should only occur with one lens, not all of them?

Hi.

That is likely a faulty CCD sensor.

The CCD sensor is the device that will capture light and convert it into a digital signal.

There are a number on Canon Digital that had been recalled because of a defective CCD manufactured by Sony. If your camera model number is included in this group, the camera will be repaired or replaced by Canon.
I think that this camera mounts a Sony sensor.
Depending on the year of fabrication and model number, Canon may cover in full the CCD sensor replacement, even out of warranty.

The best thing to do is contacting Canon and listening to what they have to say. When talking to the operator, better stating that no improper use of the camera had been done, and telling that a technician has said the fault is likely a CCD problem.

You have dust on your sensor. your best bet is to get it cleaned professionally, . if you want to clean it yourself, get a kit like this

Canon 350D

You can't edit the photos on the camera. The resolution is fixed after the picture is taken. All photo editing must be done on the computer. Zooming in is only temporary enlargement.

Colour balance for majority of photo is good but sky or white goes to pink. Colour balance is obviously not the problem. Help?

How about White Balance? Taking a photo outdoors, for example, white your WB is set on "Fluorescent Light" will turn your images bluish. To set WB, see the owners manual.

Spot on photos from a canon 350d

Spots
If you see bright circles or spots on photos taken with flash, and the lens appears to be clean, then this is probably caused by particles (dust, pollen, etc) in the air.

See:
http://home.fujifilm.com/products/digital/shooting/flash.html
http://webpages.charter.net/bbiggers/DCExperiments/html/body_spots_.html
http://www.fratkin.com/d320l/spots.html

There's also an interesting thread on the CANON DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM at <http://photography-on-the.net/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=2912>

And an explanation of sorts at <http://www.fujifilmsupport.com/faq/tech/spot/spot.htm>

I really don't know if a slave flash would help, because I assume the A40 flash would still be operating, but if you could borrow one it might be worth a try.

Might be a wild goose chase, but you could try changing some small thing, just in case ...
... like trying a different flash mode - slow synch for example?
... or different picture modes - perhaps snapshot or infinity?
... or changing from AUTO to Program, or from Program to Manual, etc?

Otherwise it's probably a case of waiting for most of the dust to settle, taking more than one photo, or just trying to do without flash whenever possible in that sort of situation ...

Another suggestion I just came across is to use a Negative Ion Generator - used to purify air by precipitating out the particles. Don't know how well it would work - probably not very well if folk keep moving around - and sounds expensive, so maybe not worth buying one - but if dust is a regular problem, and you just happen to know someone that has one ...

hope this helps

Canon 350D photos have a small red dot on them

if the red spot is always on the same place in each picture.... seems like a problem with the sensor ...

The sensor uses three channels to create colour... RED / GREEN / BLUE... one of the pixels for one of the sensors is gone
