Question about HP Color LaserJet 3500 Printer
Showing 59.99 printer error on HP Laserjet 3500
The most common reason for a 59.99 error is that the secondary transfer engaging solenoid is sticking shut. There is a thin bit of foam stuck to the body of the solenoid that the metal plate hits against when it it activated. This foam deteriorates with age and becomes sticky. Therefore the solenoid doesn't release and the secondary transfer mechanism isn't activated.
I've come across 5 HP3500 printers with the 59.99 error message and have fixed all of them by getting rid of the sticky, deteriorated foam and sticking a piece of material in it's place.
Getting to the secondary transfer engaging solenoid is tricky and it will take you hours if you've never done something like this before.
You need to download the 3500 service manual and carefully follow all the steps for dismantling the printer and reassembling it (page 265 of the service manual).
