This is a leak in your system. If it is just slowley going back to the pool it is probally on the pressure side (after the pump). If it goes back with a big wosh it is probally a suction side leak (before the pump).

How do i prime this swimming pool pump?

The normal procedure would be to unscrew the top of the inlet basket and fill that with water until it flow out down the inlet pipe, then replace the top cover. Make sure the skimmer box basket is clean, the pool water level is high, or put a fast running hose in the skimmer box to make sure the primed pump does not have to pull the water up from too low at the inlet.

If it will not pull the pool water in when started, then -
- there is a leak or blockage somewhere on the inlet side
- the pump impeller is damaged
- the filter is clogged too much and causing back pressure
- the pump power and pipe sizing are mismatched

Pool pump surges water no steady flow

Check your water level, skimmers and weir gates, and the o-ring on the pump lid where the basket is. Air is getting in somewhere between the pool and the pump basket.

Pool cleaner starts and then stops working

Check for water flow / water flow restrictions / and water flow blockages.

Many things create water flow reductions: Dirty filters, plugged impellers, packed with debris baskets - both skimmers and at pump, closed to partially closed valves, air suction leaks: worn shaft seal, worn orings at pump lid or pump volute body, low water level, stuck skimmer weir blade/gate in the up position & skimmer empties and air is sucked into the system which may cause the pump to lose prime. This a problem that goes un-noticed and is hard to detect even by some service technicians!

Pool motor problem

If your pump is not moving water you first want to check the skimmer and pump baskets and make sure they are empty as not to restrict water flow. Next make sure your pool filter is clean. Once you have checked these, you may want to check the pump impeller. This is the part in the pump that is connected to the motor that moves the water. Impellers will clog from time to time, especially during the springtime. To inspect the impeller, you will need to open the pump, to see inside of the impeller housing or volute.

A pump motor running without any flow of water is one of two things. The impeller inside the pump that is connected to the motor is broken or clogged. Open up the pump and inspect the impeller for debris or seperation and clean or replace as needed.

It sounds like there was a lack of water to the reservoir, which is, I assume the inlet reservoir with the basket strainer in it.
1. Is your water level in the pool high enough to keep the reservoir full?
2. There is an o-ring or gasket on the reservoir cover, is it there and lubricated so there is no air leakage?
3. Put a garden hose into the open reservoir to see if the pump moves this water out.
Do all of this with the filter set to just go back to the pool so you can see the results.
Try this and comment back.
Good Luck,
Gary

My barracuda stops moving

There are several steps that you want go through to find the problem with your automatic pool cleaner. Check for air in your system, including hose connections, all fittings at the pump, checking the gasket in pump basket for wear.Make sure that your filter is backwashed and your pump basket is empty. Make sure that your main drain is closed and use your water flow gauge to make sure that you have enough water flow. Finally, check the diaphragm for wear and tear and replace if necessary

I hear it pulsating but it does not move it feels like the suction is too much

You need to use your flow gauge to check for proper flow. If the flow is too high, it will definitely cause the pool cleaner to not move properly. There are a few more things that you will want to check. Make sure that the diaphragm does not have damage or wear and tear. If it does, replace it. Backwash your filter and empty the pump basket. Obstructions or debris in them can cause lack of movement. Check for air in system. Raise individual sections of hose about the water and look for cracks or leaks. If the water level in the pump basket drops or you see excessive air bubbles in the pump basket or coming from the return lines, there is air in the system. Check hose connections, tighten all fittings at pump, and check gasket in pump basket for wear.

Water flow seems to restricted and the hose caves in

I FOUND ON MY INTEX POOL WHEN HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE IT HAD BLOCKAGE BETWEEN THE 1 1/4 HOSE ADAPTER ON THE INLET SIDE OF THE CONNECTION SUPPLYING THE PUMP AND THE BLUE FILTER SCREEN BEFORE THE OUTLET VALVE. MIGHT BE WORTH CHECKING THERE AS THE STRAINER BASKET WILL NOT CATCH ALL THE FINE DEBRIS. TAKE YOUR OUTLET HOSE OFF AND OPEN THE VALVE AND SEE IF IT IS RETRICTED.
