If you just want to back up files by storing them on a DVD, do that by using whatever your operating system provides. Since you didn't specify the type of computer (Mac or PC), I can't tell you how to do that.

If you want to put videos onto a DVD so you can watch them via a DVD player, that's a completely different thing. For that, you will need DVD mastering software. Again, the possible choices vary according to the type of computer and the operating system.

My Sony Multi-Function DVD Recorder does not recognize my Canon HG10 USB connection, for creating a DVD directly from the Canon HDD. Is there a work around?

You could put it on your computer and use an editing software and then burn it on to a DVD.
For basic editing softwares: Windows has Movie Maker and Apple has iMovie.
Hope this helps.

Canon Legria HF200 SDHC Initialization problem

This totally sucks. I have a similar issue with my Canon Vixia HF R20 and I'm using a Lexar Pro 64Gb 133x SDXC card. When trying to initialize the card, its fails and says "Process terminated with error." It also says "check the memory card" when I first put it in. Write-protect is off. My other SanDisk class 4 SDHC card seems to work ok.
I could have sworn it worked before and I was able to transfer videos to my Mac on 10.6, but I can't remember for sure if I was using the SDXC card or just the built-in memory. Very frustrating.

BURNING FROM COMPUTER TO A DICS

I am also having trouble making copies of the mini dvd from my camera - when I try to use nero software, it says I need Dolby Digital sound software. It would be nice to have an easy way to share home movies with family and friends by easily making copies of the dvd.
