Question about Refrigerators

I had the freezer door off as I was changing the handle from one side to another. The Freezer stopped working and now it appears the fridge did too. What happened?

Am I supposed to leave it unplugged for two hours before plugging it back in?
We already plugged it back in for 5 minutes and nothing appeared to turn back on. No sounds.

Thanks for the last quick response.

Thanks for the reply. I eventually plugged it back in and after about 30 minutes of waiting it turned back on. I'm guessing it took that long for the coils to heat up? Just guessing? It's fixed now.

    Thank you for your help.

Good day, If it's a long time, then yes you could have overloaded the system, and even caused the coils to frost over. They should always be shut down when doing open door servicing. If the fan in the freezer is blowing, and the machine is on. To be safe, I would shut the machine down, remove the rear panel in the freezer and check for frosting. Melt down, if needed, and then let the machine set for a few hours. off. Restart and leave the doors shut for at least 3 hours so it can catch up. Recovery can be up to 12 hours.

No, it is just by happenstance in a defrost cycle. They will stay off up to 45 minutes if that is the case.
I gave you an extended off time, not to protect the food, but rather rather the long term condition of the compressor. I'm sorry you did not accept that, but haste with a refrigerator can create problems.

Can you hear the compressor motor running when the door is closed?

If you had the door off for a while, it will take an hour for the temperature to lower and stablize again.

Is the light on when you open the fridge door?

If not, was there a connector you unplugged to switch the door from one side to the other?

report back, thanks.

See if the compressor is running, and if it is, see what the frost pattern looks like on the evaporator coil inside of the freezer after removing the panel covering it inside of the freezer, this will tell us if you have a sealed system problem. The relay/overload could have failed. Do you hear any clicking down by the compressor? Use an ohm meter to check the overload on the compressor. It should read closed. See if the compressor is hot to touch. Feel the compressor. You should be able to feel it running. If the coils get dirty, they do not cool effectively, and that makes the compressor work harder. The coils are usually located at the bottom in the front, behind the grill below the doors. You can and should clean them once a year at least. When refrigerators get older the vibrations have a tendency to make small cracks in the refrigerant lines and seals get older. Also check the temperature controls, make sure they are both cranked up to max.

I have whirlpool A CLASS fridge how do i reverse the door

  • I cannot confirm weather your fridge had reversible doors as you listed no model but the standard for fridges that can reverse the door swing are changed by doing this -
  1. You will see little plastic covers on the opposite side where the hinges and handles are currently located now.
  2. There are some little clips that hinge the screws on the top and bottom of each handle.
  3. Remove these little covers with a small flathead screwdriver.
  4. Now remove the screws holding the freezer and refrigerator handles on.
  5. Now pop the screw hole covers on the side of the frig/freezer you will using.
  6. Now place and fasten with screws the handles on the other side of the frig/freezer door.
  7. Now remove the top freezer hinge first by removing the 3 screws on top.
  8. Now pull up on the hinge (save the spacer).
  9. Now pull up on the freezer door.
  10. Now remove the screws on the middle hinge.
  11. Now pull up and remove the middle hinge while holding the frig door steady (save the spacer).
  12. Now pull up on the frig door and set to the side.
  13. Now remove the screws on the bottom hinge (save the spacer).
  14. Now put the screw hole covers you removed from the other side in the screw hole exposed from the screws you just removed.
  • The switch
  1. Start with the bottom hinge and place it on the opposite side (don't forget the spacer).
  2. Place the frig door on the bottom hinge and the place the middle hinge in the hole at the top of the frig door.
  3. Fasten the middle hinge.
  4. Place freezer door on the middle hinge.
  5. Put the freezer door in it's natural position to make putting the top hinge on possible.
  6. Screw the top hinge in.
  7. Job complete.
Regards, Tony

GE Energy Star French Door Bottom Freezer handle popped off

You cant find a hole to insert screw from outside. It is true, and you can't fix it yourself to what it looked like earlier. The company first screws in through the handle and then covers the hole made by it with the material of the handle. If you have to fix it yourself, you can only pierce those screws through the handle leaving the mark behind. If you don't want that, contact your company or dealer.

Change doors of fridge freezer from right opening to left opening needless to say cannot find instructions after 10 years

tilt unit backwards, and under hinge side you will see a bracket, undo bolts and transfer to opposite side leaving loose, slide door down ,then on top of door transfer plug to opposite side(if needed)slide door back up and refit bottom hinges/tighten bolts.
handle is just a matter of prising plastic cover of and unscrewing, then refitting to other side.
once you tip it backward its pretty obvious really.

Fridge freezer over heating and is not cooling fridge section

It is normal for the middle strip to be hot. Did you check the temp setting in the fridge section?
Also - you might check for blockage in the bottom. Excessive dirt/dog hair can block the air flow.
Good luck

Cannot reverse door on Electrolux fridge freezer

Basically they needed to supply an additional door mount for the left hand side of the door as well as the right hand side. Problem now sorted. Poor instructions in the manual didn't help here!
