Question about Sharp AL-1642CS Copier

1 Answer

My AL-1642CS is making a clicking sound, folds in the middle of the page, and bottom half doesn't print. I've narrowed it down to the fuser gear. It must be working somewhat or (I believe) the paper wouldn't feed through at all. My question is what is stopping the gear from working properly? Also, I know that when you pull down the green tab it releases the gear, what releases the gear in order to print? And, is there a schematic I can get on the fuser unit?

    Forget about the "what releases the gear..." question. It's supposed to move, that's why the gears were grinding. Took apart, cleaned, lubed the fuser unit. No more sound. Print? Don't know yet. Now I have a Paper Jam Error. Still would like that schematic...

    But what would cause the gear to go bad? It seems as if the rollers are too tight against each other, making it hard to turn. What would cause that?

I would say that you have a bad gear on the fuser unit.

H what?
There should be a sub code number after the H to narrow it down.
It appears that you will need to replace the fuser unit.
You have a temperature problem.

My hp1012 is printing dark with shading on the pages and shadow or echos. Can something be replaced or fixed?

with this issue, you pretty much have to run a half way test unless you have the convieniance of another toner to try. basically, it's either going to br your toner or your fuser and a halfway test will determine this if you don't have another toner to try.

The Half-way Test

You will need to print a page and open the toner lid when you think the paper is underneath the toner cartridge. This will stop the printing so you can pull the toner cartridge out and look at the partially printed paper. It may take a few tries to time this test correctly so the paper stops under the toner but not completely into the fuser.
1. Print a test page from Tray 1, the "fold-down" Multi-Purpose tray on your printer.
2. Just as the test page completely disappears into the printer, open the toner lid door. The print job will stop, sensing an error.

3. Pull the toner cartridge out, and you will find the test page sitting directly underneath the toner.
4. Carefully remove the page by gently pulling the page upwards & free from the toner cavity. Careful! The toner has not yet been fused to the paper, so the print can be somewhat messy on your hands and may smudge easily.

Examine the printout.
1. If you do not see the print defect on your test page, that means the defect is being added later in the print process by the fuser. Fusers are the main component in a maintenance kit; click here to view our selection of maintenance kits for various LaserJet printers.
2. If the print defect is visible on this printout, that means the print defect is occurring before the fuser. Try replacing the toner cartridge (click here to view our selection of toner cartridges).
If you determine the print defect is occurring before the fuser, and swapping toners doesn’t fix the problem, there could be several things causing the problem. In the order of most likely to least likely: you could have two defective toner cartridges, the transfer roller might be faulty, the laser scanner could be dirty or defective, or the high voltage power supply could be bad. You might want to email or call since these scenarios are not as common.

I have the sharp al-1642CS and need to print ups full sheet labels for shipping. Tray 1 will not pick up the labels and jams. I can not get the sharp to print via the multi-tray when I send a job from my...

Will the tray not pick them up at all, or do they feed out about 2 inches? If they feed out of the tray and will not get past the curved area you need to open that door where the jam is and make the spring pressure on those springs on each side tighter. I kind of loop the bottom hook of the spring up into the rest of the spring to create more spring pressure on the rolls and then it should work.

Making clicking noise when turned on..folding

A scraper/s have either;

1) Popped out of their location..
2) Damaged your upper heat roller/lower hear roller and the click is where its steadily wearing into the surface of the roller.

You can do the following;

Remove the power cable.
Open the covers so you can access the fuser (the hot part)
Look inside, you will be looking for about 4-6 scrapers, they should look like a birds beak (kinda)
See if you can remove the one causing the problem, if not, get the copier to jam up then look in there, the one causing the issue should stand out as it will be causing the jam.

All in all you will have to remove/or re locate the scraper into its original position.

take out all the paper from the loading tray, and press down on the inside of the tray 4 or 5 times, and put a sheet back in. There seems to be a physical irregularity with all 2300DL printers that causes this problem
