Can get no sound when playing a dvd on window,s media player

You may not have the right codecs loaded, you can google codecs download, and take your pick. I use VLC player from videolan, a free lightweight player that has all the codecs pre loaded.

Sound card codecs

The AC97 codecs are fairly generic but there are two basic choices - AC97 Standard or AC97 HD, both are available for download from the Realtek site.

If you have already attempted to install the AC97 codecs without success you should probably try the AC97 HD codecs. One or the other should be compatible with your device though.

Post your results here, especially if this doesn't fix your problem, so I can further assist you.

Media players do not play sounds

Ah yes, the bane of multimedia files and codecs. First thing you need to do is download Gspot. Drop the file into Gspot and identify exactly what the audio codec is. Once you do that, then you can download it. Careful though, you can get viruses or get otherwise currupted/inoperable codecs if you don't get the right ones.
