Most likely your powerboard. Inside those are capacitors that are known to "pop". They have been widely used in many newer tv/monitor units since around '97 I believe. Anyway, Some problems with these things are a little harder to figure out, but a problem that shows a light(flashing/blinking/on for while/off for while) is to my new found knowledge a bad capacitor or 2 in your powerboard. I found a 19" lcd monitorTV won't turn on w/either the remote or power butt - 2_bing.gif that didnt come on, but the power light is on. I bummed then googled it and found this to be a VERY common problem! I watched a video on youtube2_bing.gif how to fix your monitor and openend mine. I found 1 bad capacitator(bad caps show a buldging top and/or fluid leaking from them. one trip to Radioshack and $1.59 The problem was fixed! A rapair man woul;d order your board, install it and charge you around $300 or more. You could change your board yourself(saves money) or you could open your unit and inspect it yourself first, your fix could be $5 or less!....There are many pic etc to be found on google image for "popped" capacitors(caps), also there are video's on how to replace them on youtube...I hope this helps some

Hi there again, I've wrote a more detailed description on how to diagnose a bad capacitor, how to replace and what to look for in buying a new part...Take a minute to read this and save yourself a lot of headaches!..;..................................

The caps (capacitors) in the powerboard are going out. This is a very common problem in all class and price ranges of modern lcd and plasma tv's/ monitor's. I don't know if this problem has been like this for awhile or it just started, but either way, if the tv takes an abnormal amount of time to "warm" up then it most likely will go out all the way sometime in the (near) future. If you have a tiny bit of will and knowledge ypou can open the unit and get to the print board. Examine this for "popped" capacitors, they will have a buldging top instead of a flat one. Im gonna try to include a pic of them here, if i can get it this time, I've tried bfore lol. But you can google image a "popped" or "bad" capacitor and you would be able, with ease, to diagnose if you have any of these. Usually only one or two. Radioshack sells capacitors (couple anyway) for $1.59 each. MAKE SURE the replacement is of the SAME voltage or HIGHER, or you will be right back replacing those 2. Every capacitor has a negative pole marked with an (-) on the side of the capacitor(by one of the "legs", always puit the negative (-) "leg" of the new capacitor in the same hole in the printboard as where the previous negative (-) "leg" of the capacitor was ( a capacitor with the negative and positive "legs" put in backwards will result in the new piece "popping" as sson as you turn it on!!) make sure the "uf" rating (for example the most common popped capacitor is the 1000 uf) is the same as the one you are replacing. I needed 1000 uf, 105 c and 26v (volt) ratings for the 1 capacitor I needed to replace to fix my LG 19" lcd panel monitor I found by the trash that the light came on off, but it didn't come on. I replaced that capacitor with ; 1000uf, 85 c and 36 v (volts0...It works fine eventhough the volts and the temperature rating (36v and 85c) was not the same as the (26v(volt) and 105c ) capacitor I removed !! Further, I've replaced capacitors that had the celcius rating of 105 with the only ones Radioshack had, namely 85 c(celsius) they have been working great, but I'm not sure about any effect, nor have I heard or read (yet?) about that making an urgent difference. Many threads that I've read people have done the same, so we should be ok (my stuff has been running good for a while longer then most brand new ones!.............(all these ratings ; 'uf ' and 'c' etc are on the side of the capacitor you are replacing and on the side of the ones you are replacing them with)...For all this all you need is the cheapest solder gun u can find (I bought one for $7.99 at Radioshack), a camera (to take pictures as you go to remember how to reassemble the unit) and, once you have your materials, 20 minutes to replace 2 or 3 capacitors and you are good to go...Most monitors and tvs (lcd/plasma) I've seen you have to lay flat on the ground/bed/blanket etc, to work on (screen side down). Usually there are 2 or 3 screws (or a few more) to remove, then you will have to carefully (its comes off easily most times)insert a flat screwdriver inbetween the casing and gently pry it up as you go around the whole frame. Sometimes you have to remove the little washer arouind the cable input orso, just be gentle and you cant go wrong. Once insidet here will be a box with wires running to the sides etc...unplug, gently, these wires and open the box. Inside you will find 2 or 3 circuitboards, check them all for "popped" capacitors, replace, reassemble and plug it in....Have fun becoming an overnight tv mechanic lol!

If this has helped you (or not), then please rate!..Thank you!

Are you trying with the remote and the power button on the tv? The batteries might be dead in your remote if you haven't tried the power button on the TV.

Why won't tv turn on by remote or power button unless we try 4-5 times?

My TV has the same problem.
At first, it was an issue with the button itself, somehow some gunk got down under the button and kept it from pressing down all the way most of the time.
A few days after we fixed that, it started to mess up again, this time it was an issue with the way it transmitted signal to the TV.

If the button being blocked isn't the issue, replace the batteries. If the batteries aren't the issue and you don't have a soldering gun, then you'll need to purchase a new remote.

I bought one from walmart for ten dollars and it works just fine for basic use.

Only turns on with remote and won't stay on

Power button on the television itself may be stuck - go to the unit and press the power button se if it engages. If it depresses and sticks there is your issue - if it does not check the remote take out the batteries and unscrew the unit take the rubber pad out of the casing and spray out with canned air. If that doesn't do it - try unplug the tv from the wall for 1 minute or 2 and replug-in and see if the problem persist if so you will need to contact a tv repair shop but it sounds like the button on the tv needs to be cleaned because something is holding the power position in a spot to turn the unit off

Power button only one that won't turn power on

Have the remote tested either with a tester that most shops have or in a dark room with a digital camera the display will faintly flash when remote pointed at it and buttons pressed.

Also if button does not work (power) unplug the set for a while to see if it will reset. If the tester shows same problem--no working for power or have to press ******* buttons 99% chance something got spilled onto remote and got inside

My LG TV red light won't turn on. although the plug fuse and the remote OK

Try manually pressing the power/standby button on the tv (side or bottom) the red light should appear, most modern tv's will turn on simply by pressing the channel up or down on the tv itself.. But unfortunately in most cases, this seems to be an internal surge and needs a professional to inspect..

Remote was hit, shut set off, and can't get it back on. Sounds like timer is on.

First try turning the TV on from the Power button the set itself (assuming it has one).

If not, unplug the TV from the wall, wait a half hour, then plug it back in. It should come back on.

Also check that none of the buttons on the remote are stuck down, and that the batteries in the remote are OK. The toy might've stuck a repeating button down (like volume) which may have then drained the remote's batteries.
