Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional for PC
Run Taskmanager and note the CPU Usage. Slow generation of text is usually a memory problem. If the CPU is at 90-100% the check what programs are loading at START on the task bar and try reducing them.
Anti virus is good but not always the answer, use a anti spyware like Malwarebytes to route out some key loggers and other nasties which is possibly what you have ( anti virus often do not detect these)

I suspect your hard disk, does it make any noise?
From experience, hard disk is what causes this type of problem. This happens when your hard disk has a bad sector.
To resolve this, I would advice that you re-run your operating system (Vista/XP). After this is done, test the system thoroughly, before you run any program on it.
