First start with uninstalling the driver's for the printer from your control panel on your pc under add/remove.. reboot, then reinstall disc for the driver's and follow the installation directions.. if don't have the driver disc here is the link you will need:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=116&modelid=12764#DownloadDetailAct

good luck.. helpful feedback will be appreciated or if you need additional assistance... thanks, d

Doesn´t scan or print; error

The 5100 error on this printer can be caused by a bad/faulty Carriage Unit, or Timing **** Film, or Logic Board, or Carriage Motor. If your printer is blinking only 2 times then a pause then blinks again 2 times this is more then likely the issue. You will need to contact Canon and find a repair center near you to fix this issue.

Error code 5100

5100 means either there is paper stopping the carriage from moving properly, or there is grease on the plastic strip behind the carriage. If you wipe off the grease with a Q-tip the error will go away.
