Open Question

Sharp Aquos LCD TV does not turn on. I have checked the plug, electrical outlet, and nothing happens. This is just all of a sudden. The TV is not very old ---maybe 2 years. Does anyone know what the problem could be with the TV?

SOURCE: Sharp Aquos LCD TV does not turn on. I have

Hello,

Your TV is obviously having a power problem. Once a TV does not turn on, then it means it is having a power problem. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on. (Before you go any further, check the power wire/cord connected from the wall (plug) to the TV. This is to confirm if the power cord has not loosed contact from the wall.)

All these can be checked on the power supply board.

But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Regards.

SOURCE: I have a sharp aquos tv model lc-32m400x. When i turn the power on via button at the back the green light comes on for about 10secs then turns to red and flashes about every 11/2 - 2secs. Any ideas.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

I have a Sharp Aquos # LC-45GD4U. It now suddenly turns off by itself and stays off until I turn it back on. This happens while watching live TV or playing back a recorded show. Ideas?

Check the ventilation fins on the back. Sometimes they get obstructed with dust and then heat builds up. The TV then shuts down to protect itself from overheating. You can use a blow dryer to blow it out.

The TV won't turn on. I tried a different electrical outlet and I put new batteries in the remote, but the TV will not turn on.

First try from the buttons on the set. Then if you plug something in the same outlet and it works then it's your set. If the cord is all the way in the tv then and you don't have any LED lights on, then your power supply needs replacing or repaired

Dark lines in background

This may be caused by the electrical outlet, try to run it off a extention cord from another room and see if the lines are still there. If they are you have a loose ground in your outlet. If the line still show them check your cables that feed the a/v signal to the tv. I have had this happen and it was just the outlet, hope this helps

Can't retune sharp aquos lcd tv

This is the best place that's near the manual you need.
They have the LC32D44E manuals, but not the "BK" at the end. I think the "BK" just means BLACK.
But, I think it will work for your TV.
Here's the link:
http://www.sharp.co.uk/page/downloaddrivermanuals#

Click on the "Sharp Europe - Manuals and Download "
Then, Operation Manuals
Then, LCD-TV
Then, put your TV model# for the search.
