Take the bowl off, turn it on in the centre at the front where the base of the handle would normally be there is a light coloured button/plastic piece. Push it in with a matchstick. If the motor now starts then you have a problem with the safety switching mechanism in either the bowl or the lid. It is more often the lid. The only solution is to replace the faulty part. Easiest is go to a service agent and buy whichever part solves the problem.
Same thing happened to me and I ONLY used the thing 2xs (I was about to go H.A.M aka hard as a muthaF'er considering the price) then I tried the smaller cup size and it worked then went back to the larger pitcher and tried again. You have to ensure you have all the lock spots aligned and the top of the pitcher down securely. It worked after that...I also smelled like I was burning rubber at first but it works now...

FIXED IT - It's the screws on the bottom of the jar assembly, where the blades are attached. There are 4 Torx screws - star-shaped - and when these come loose over time the Blender will start to operate only sometimes. Eventually it will be never.
Tighten these four screws and everything will be fine!
