The oven door is locked after the self cleaning and I cannot get it unlocked. I have had to cut the power to it last night - tried several times to start it and pressed the clear and clean and clock buttons - all it does is make a clicking noise and beep

Solution - A service man came over and he took off the back of the central part of the stove and there is a small motor there and he removed it and turned the long metal rod that locks the stove and turned it so it would unlock the stove. He then replaced the motor with a new one. This will cost me some money but just finding the way the door locked was good to know.

Turning power off and resetting should place lock motor in action. Have someone push in on door for you while you reset again. Just maybe in bind.

My GE wall oven is stuck on lock mode. I cancelled a self clean (I know, big mistake) and after cooling down it still won't unlock. I've cut the power and still nothing. It's been 3 days! Trying to avoid...

Try putting it back in self clean. Listen to see if it locks. then cancel the self clean. It could be the self clean lock motor has gone bad. The lock hook can be moved to unlock the door by inserting a stiff wire like a coat hanger between the door and the oven and moving the latch over to unlock the door.

Oven will not unlock after self clean

Unfortunately, the high temperature limit sensor probably failed during the self-clean cycle. The oven control unit will not receive the signal that the oven is cool enough to unlock the door without the sensor.

If the oven is cool, you can try unplugging the oven for a while and then see if the oven unlocks after power is restored. Pressing the Cancel button several times (or pressing and holding Cancel, depending on the model) may also work. Sometimes, starting a new cleaning cycle and then stopping it (and waiting for the oven to cool) will work.

However if the sensor has failed, the above steps are unlikely to work. You can try to move the lock manually. On some models, you can use a bent coat hanger to slide between the oven door and the frame and push the lock over. On other units, you might open the back panel and rotate the lock mechanism cam.

The oven will not work until the high temperature sensor is replaced. Sometimes the lock mechanism fails and that is what needs to be replaced. If the oven works, then look at replacing the lock motor.

I hope this helps. If your oven is under warranty, contact GE for the repair. Please add a comment with the model of your unit for specific information on the parts you may need.

My oven door will not unlock after cleaning

It will take some time for it to unlock. The lock after self cleaning is controlled by temp. The temps during self cleaning are over 900 degrees and after self cleaning it will take several hours before the oven lock will release. Don't try to force. If after 3 hours it has not unlocked you can try disconnecting power for 2 minutes then reconnecting to activate the self cleaning motor assembly. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya

Oven door won't unlock after self clean

Try unplugging it. If that does not work, try to use a flat object like a butter knife, to move the latch (between handle, and top of stove.) Other than that... have a handy guy you know come look at it....

Oven Door Locked

the oven door does lock during self clean, otherwise it will not work. however, the door is supposed to unlock after the oven has cooled. if it is still locked, turn the oven to self clean and wait about a minute and then hit cancel and see if the door unlocks. if not, there may be a probelm with the door lock mechanism. Oven door stuck on locked!

E1-F5 indicates door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by this operation. Suggest oven cleaner method next time...

On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. Remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam. If it is a built-in over, sometimes bending a coat hanger into a hook and sliding from the right side into the lock you can unlock the door.

Oven door won't unlock

I had the same problem on my Kenmore Electric Range. Door would not unlock. Tried pressing "Off" for multiple seconds, but still would not unlock. No error codes. Clock was displaying normally. Finally decided to try running it thru the self cleaning operation to get it to cycle thru locking and unlocking the door. When I started self clean, the door automatically went thru the auto lock and "locked" appeared in the display. I then hit "Off" to clear it and stop the cleaning cycle. The door then unlocked as normal!
