Usually new mags are delivered with a cardboard spacer to use to set the gap. It is roughly that of a business card, probably around .8 to 10 thousandths inches. Use cardboard rather than feeler gauges as the feelers are magnetic usually and will attract contaminants.

Hello,
There are 2 items that you need to pay close attention to is the air gaps;
1. Air gap of the points, and
2. Air gap between the permanent magnet and the pick up coil.
Use the manual to determine the proper gap size.

Good Luck,

What is the air gap on the mag?

Most work fine by using a normal business car to set gap. Main thing is that it does not touch the flywheel or magnets.

New coil and still no spark on my GC 160 Honda tiller

Did you check the gap between the magnet on the flywheel an mag? Unplug the stop wire an see how that works. Sometimes the switch is bad. Are the magnets on the flywheel, did you set the gap on the flywheel to mag correctly? Did you do the simple thing an change the plug they go bad more than anything else.

I replaced a coil on a stihl weedeater, fs 55 rc, and am having a problem with flooding. also I need the gap spec for the coil/mag

put a piece of paper between coil and magneto magnets, then tighten down. Just so it is not scraping or hitting when you pull it past the magnets . The flooding is because your possibly leaving the choke on to long . Only pull it a couple times, when choke is on. Then turn to half choke.
