Sounds like soemthing has broken the file association with the files you are trying to open in explorer.
First of all, make sure it IS a powerpoint file you are trying to open.
second of all, there is a method in which you can try to recreate the file association:
1.) right click on the file you are trying to open and choose Open With -> Choose program
2.) if PowerPoint Viewer is in the list, click on it, make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is enabled, then press OK. the program will open and read the file. exit out of it and open the file again to test to see if this works.
If it isn;t on the "programs" list of the Open With Menu, you will have to find it. Click on "Browse", search for the program, select "open", make sure "always use the seelcted program" is checked off, and press OK. close the application thats starts and run again to test.
Hope this helps, alsthough this was posted a far ways back.

You will need to purchase microsoft power point then... it is not included with Windows Vista. If you want something similiar, for free, check out openoffice.org and you can download open office.

If your looking for Microsoft Office PowerPoint, it is a rather expensive program that can be purchased togther with the rest of the office suite at most retail stores, or online.
If you just need to view a Power Point file that someone else made, search microsoft.com for "powerpoint viewer". It's free and will allow you to view without changing.

There is a free package called OpenOffice that includes a presentation application called Impress. This application can edit existing Powerpoint files and create new presentations and save in various file formats, one of them being PowerPoint

USING VISTA FOR POWERPOINT, INTERNET AND DOCUMENTATION

You need to install Microsoft Powerpoint to do power point presentations. Its part of Microsoft Office

However, Windows Vista does come with a movie maker installed.
Click on the start button, then all programs and you should see it listed in the programs there

If it doesnt run and gives you an error message then follow this link to get a version that will work with your computer. DO not download it if windows movie maker works
